"Hurry up, Crisel! We're going to be late. Ayoko mapagalitan na naman ni Elaine for not being on time. Hindi na kakayanin ng tenga ko! Swear!" I shouted at Crisel.
She's staying at my house for about a week now. Ayaw daw niya munang umuwi sa bahay niya since natatakot daw siya dahil mag-isa lang siya sa bahay niya at kakanood lang daw niya ng horror movie.
I'm pretty sure that she's lying and there's a whole different reason kung bakit ayaw niyang umuwi sa bahay niya. Among the three of us, siya ang pinaka-mahilig sa mga nakakatakot and believe me when I say na kahit puro horror movies lang ang panoorin niya for a month, hindi siya matatakot.
"Ano ba, Crisel! Sinabi ng ayaw ko mapagalitan ni Elaine eh! Hindi na kakayanin ng tenga ko!"
"Give me one more minute!" She said the exact same sentence for the nth time already.
Sisigiwan ko na sana ulit siya ng lumabas na siya ng guest room fully dressed. She's wearing a short blue cocktail dress that her friend designed. Hindi rin makapal ang make-up niya katulad ng nakasanayan.
"Ready?" I asked since I was getting really bored while waiting for her.
"Susuotin ko lang yung heels ko then we're good to go."
Just like what she said, pumunta siya sa kinaroroonan ng high heels niya at sinuot yun bago kami lumabas ng bahay. Since dala niya naman ang sasakyan niya at naka-park lang yun sa tabi ng sasakyan ko ay yun na ang ginamit niya at sumunod nalang sa likod ko.
Nang makarating na kami sa club kung saan gaganapin ang birthday party ni Elaine ay nakita namin siya na nasa labas at mukhang may hinihintay habang nakatingin sa cellphone niya.
Sabay kaming bumaba ni Crisel sa kanya-kanya naming sasakyan while bracing ourselves. Alam ko, alam namin, na sisigawan na naman kami ni Elaine for not arriving on the given time.
Nang napansin niya na may presensya malapit sakanya ay nilingon niya kami habang nakakunot ang noo.
"You two, bakit ngayon lang kayo dumating? And naisipan niyo pang maging late sa mismong birthday ko pa."
"Tanungin mo yung Isa dyan oh. Maaga ngang gumising, inabot naman ng ilang oras sa paga-ayos." I pointed at Crisel using my eyes. Like what I've been doing since the very start.
I didn't speak one word but she understood what I was talking about. She was about to complain but I took a step already and brought Crisel with me, leaving the birthday girl behind.
"Nandito naman na kami at may oras pa bago magsimula ang party mo kaya mag-ayos na tayo. Wag ka na mag-aksaya ng laway at oras para pagsabihan kami. We're not kids anymore, neither teenagers, Elaine."
Kinuha na ni Crisel ang guest list para ma-keep track kung sino-sino at ilan ang pupunta habang ako naman ay kinuha ang drinks mula sa counter at nilagyan ng tiga-apat na drinks ang kada table.
Nagsimula ng magsidatingan ang mga bisita at unti-unti ng napuno ang mga upuan.
Pinanood ko ang mga tao na pumasok at umupo by group. Sa sobrang daming kaibigan ni Elaine ay pwede na siyang tumakbo bilang politician at manalo ng walang kahirap-hirap, especially with her career.
Nang mapuno na ang club dahil sa mga bisita ay napag-isipan ko na mag-retouch muna bago humarap sa mga bisita.
Pumasok na ako sa powder room para mag-ayos and after ay naghugas ako ng kamay before going out.
"Enjoy the party." I said with a smile plastered on my face. Lumipat na ako sa next table but my ear to ear smile suddenly dissapeared when I saw a very familiar face.
Elaine didn't inform me that she invited him too!
I tried to smile without it looking too forced but I failed and his friends who are sitting on the same table with him seemed to notice. They started laughing at me and I took that as a chance to look at Gavin.
He's wearing a blue dress shirt that is tucked in inside his black pants. As always, his flawless chest was exposed, his style is still the same and it never changed ever since.
He returned the gesture and looked at me too from head to toe before returning his gaze to the woman beside him. The woman beside him is wearing a red fitted dress that ends above her knees. Her hands are encircled around Gavin's arm and that's where I noticed that she's wearing a ring.
So he's getting married, huh?
Our eyes met once again and the memories of us came flashing back.
"You and I forever, baby."
Forever my ass, tsk.
I turned away when his friends stopped laughing and gave us stares that only means one thing, including the woman beside him. Including his fucking fiance.
I took that as my cue to leave before I start a drama. I don't know if his fiance knows about me, about her soon to be husband's past with me since I didn't recognize her because my eyes only landed on her for a few seconds before I looked away but I know for a fact that she seems oddly familiar. Despite all that, I still couldn't afford to ruin Elaine's party.
I already took a step back and bid my goodbyes without looking at him again.
I've moved on already but there was still hatred in my heart. You can't blame me! He broke my heart 4 years ago for freaking sake!
The things I've been through because of our breakup wasn't just nothing. Akala ko hindi na kami magkikita ulit but destiny really seems fucked up.
Akalain mo nga naman na sa isang birthday party pa pala talaga kami magkikita ulit. Where I least expected it to be.
I don't care about him or his fiance, the only thing that matters right now is my well being. Being with him, being this close to him is dangerous and fatal to the heart, to my heart. I couldn't afford suffering from another heartbreak so I have no choice but to avoid him. To stay away from him...
But I forgot that I have no control of what's about to happen in the future.
