Chapter 12: He got her, You're Late

I woke up to my phone ringing. I checked the caller ID and it was my mom. Mom? Why would she call me? She's just across the hallway. I picked up.

"Hey Mom"

"Hi dear". She coughed

"Why are you calling me? Are you okay?"

"I woke up with a terrible headache so I'll not be able to go to work today."

"Oh, that's bad. Do you need anything?"

"No,I don't need anything, thanks."

"Okay then. So that means I'll have to find another means to go to school"

"That's right. And you can fix yourself some breakfast."

"That's okay. I'll just call Jenny. I'll come see you before I leave for school. Get well soon,Mom."

"Thanks,dear."

I hang up and went to prepare for school. I called Jennifer to come pick me up since my mom won't be going to work today. While waiting for her,I had my breakfast and took some coffee up to my mom's room and wished her a speedy recovery.

We had biology practicals as our first period. We were dissecting a frog. I worked with Jennifer so it went smoothly. Plus,I  had already done it before. Since we're in senior year,most of the things werepretty much like revision.
After biology,math. Miss Evans gave us a surprise pop quiz.

***Lunch***
Jenny and I were eating at our usual table when Lionel came around.

"Hi Ally"

"Hey Lionel"

"I hope you're good"

"I am. You?"

"I'm okay. I wanted to ask you something."

"Okay,go on". Just then,a group of his friends started calling him over.

"Um...I'll ask you later"

"No problem"

"What was that about?",Jennifer asked.
I shrugged

When school was over,I went to my locker to put my books in. Jenny went to put her books in her locker as well.

"Hi Ally", I turned. It was Ryan

"Oh hi Ryan."

"Can I ask you something?"

"Um...sure"

"Will you go with me to the winter dance?"

I choked on air,"Wh..what?"

"Why?",he seemed jittery,as if he was afraid I would reject him

I didn't expect that.... question

"Well....",he scratched the back of his head,"I wanna go with you."

Even though there were a gazillion questions in my head as to why he asked me, I decided not to ask,"ok then".

"Thanks. I'll see you around",he smiled.

"Yeah"

Almost immediately after he left, Lionel came over.

"Hi"

"Hi. You wanted to ask me something earlier, right?"

"Yeah....",he scratched the back of his head too and that raised an eyebrow.

"Well...",I urged him

"Would you go to the winter dance with me?"

"Whoaa"

"What's wrong?"

"Sorry Lionel but Ryan just asked me so I'm going with him"

"Oh shoot"

I couldn't help but giggle,"Don't worry, you'll find another date."

"I hope so. Do you need a ride?"

"No thanks. I'm going with Jennifer."

"Oh okay. Then I'll see you later."

"Sure"

During the ride to my house,I told Jennifer about Ryan and Lionel asking me to go to the dance with them. She looked at me and started smirking. I could tell she wanted to say something.

"Oh keep quiet and drive"

"I wasn't going to say anything", she laughed. I gave her a look,"ok fine",she said still laughing.

When I got home, Mom was asleep so I went to my room to rest as well.
