When Ryan wakes up, it's not because of the sun. It's not birds chirping outside or because of the soft warmth of Finley besides him.
It's pitch black, and he's awake because of the low, guttural speaking that clearly not English. His heart had never pounded fast, and he feared that the creature that was next to him would be able to hear it.
Minutes ticked slowly by as Ryan finally gathered up the courage to open his eyes. There was a knife above his head. And the person wielding it was Finley.
She brought the knife down full force, aiming for a fatal blow.
