لم يعد باستِطاعتي ترككم هكذا يا مجمع العامّة ، من دونِ تذوُّقكم لِـطعم السِّحر أو الخروج من عالمكم المألوف الرّتيب قليلاً ، لذا مُرحَّبٌ بكم في قراءةِ ما انتقيته من حروفٍ أثناء رحلتي خلال سنواتي الدِّراسية السبع في هوجوورتس مع الثُّلاثي الذهبي.⚡

كانت صفحة من كتاب قديم من كتب المكتبة، وفتحها هاري بلهفة ومد رون رأسه ليقرأها معه.
"من بين كل الحيوانات المتوحشة التي تملأ الأرض، ليس هناك أخطر، ولا أكثر إثارة للفضول من ثعبان الباسيليسك، والمعروف أيضاً بملك الثعابين. هذه الحية التي تعيش مئات السنين، وتبلغ أحجامًا عملاقة هائلة مولودة من بيضة دجاجة رقدت عليها ضفضعة. أساليبها في القتل شديدة الغرابة، فإلى جانب أنيابها الحادة السامة، فهي تقتل بالتحديق إلى فريستها التي تموت فور أن تلتقي نظراتها بعينيها. وتهرب العناكب بسرعة من عدوها التقليدي الباسيليسك والذي يهرب فقط من صياح الديوك والذي يعد قاتلاً بالنسبة له".
وتحت الكتابة، وجدا كلمة واحدة بخط هيرمايني.. الأنابيب.
وكأنما لمع شعاع ضوء في عقله. قال هاري لاهثًا :"رون، هذه هي الإجابة، الوحش الموجود داخل حجرة الأسرار هو الباسيليسك. أفعى عملاقة! ولذلك كنت الوحيد الذي يسمع كلامها في المكان، ولا أحد آخر يسمعها، لأنني الوحيد الذي يفهم اللغة الثعبانية..".
وعاد يواصل :"إن الباسيليسك يقتل بالنظر إلى الضحية لكنهم لم يموتوا لأنهم لم ينظروا إلى عينيه مباشرة، لقد رآه كولن من خلال عدسة الكاميرا، ولذلك احترق الفيلم وتجمد كولن فقط. أما جاستن، فلابد أنه رأى الباسيليسك من خلال نيك شبه مقطوع الرأس، الذي تلقى الضربة كاملة، وطبعًا لم يمت نيك لأنه سبق له الموت.. أما هيرمايني ورائدة الفصل من راڤنلكو، فقد عُثر بجوارهما على مرآة. كانت هيرمايني قد اكتشفت حقيقة أن الوحش هو باسيليسك وأراهن أنها أنذرت أول شخص التقت به أن ينظر حول المنعطفات خلال مرآة أولاً، وأخرجت الفتاة مرآتها و..".
وفتح رون فمه في ذهول. وهمس متلهفًا :"وماذا عن السيدة نوريس؟".
وفكر هاري وحاول أن يتذكر المشهد ليلة الهالووين. وقال ببطء :"الماء.. الفيضان القادم من حمام ميرتل الباكية. أراهن أن السيدة نوريس لم ترَ سوى انعكاسه..".
وأخذ ينظر إلى الورقة التي بين يديه بلهفة، وكلما قرأ أكثر بدا الأمر مفهوماً له أكثر. وقرأ بصوت عالٍ :"صياح الديوك يعد قاتلاً بالنسبة له! لقد تم قتل ديوك هاجريد! لم يرد وريث سليذيرين أي واحد منها بالقرب من القلعة عندما تفتح الحجرة! وتهرب العناكب من عدوها التقليدي الباسيليسك، إن الأمر واضح".
سأل رون :"ولكن كيف يتحرك الباسيليسك في القلعة دون أن يراه أحد؟". وأشار هاري إلى الكلمة التي كتبتها هيرمايني أسفل الصفحة وقال :"الأنابيب.. الأنابيب يا رون، إنه يستعمل أنابيب المياه، لذلك كان الصوت يأتي من داخل الجدران..".
وأمسك رون فجأة بذراع هاري. وقال بصوت مختنق :"مدخل حجرة الأسرار! ماذا لو كان الحمام؟ ماذا لو كان في..؟" قال هاري :"حمام ميرتل الباكية".
وظلا جالسين، ينظران إلى بعضهما، غير مصدقين.
"Of the many fearsome beasts and monsters that roam our land. There's none more curious or more deadly than the Basilisk. Known as the king of serpents. This snake which may reach gigantic size and live many hundreds of years. Is born from a chicken's egg hatched beneath a toad. Its methods of killing are most wonderous for aside from its deadly venomous fangs. The Basilisk has a murderous stare and all who are affixed with the beam of its eye shall suffer instant death. You'll find that spiders flee before the Basilisk for it's their mortal enemy and the Basilisk flees only from the crowing of the rooster which is fatal to it"
And beneath this.. a single word had been written in a hand Harry recognized as Hermione's "Pipes".
It was as though someone had just flicked a light on in his brain. "Ron.." he breathed. "This is the answer that's the monster in the chamber a Basilisk! That's why I've been hearing its voice all over the place and no one else has heard it.. it's because I understand parseltongue".
Harry looked at the beds around him "the Basilisk kills people by looking at them, but no one's died because no one's actually looked it in the eye. Colin saw it through his camera the vastness burned up the film inside it, but Colin just got petrified, Justin must have seen the Basilisk through nearly headless Nick.. Nick got the whole blast of it, but die again and Hermione and that Ravenclaw prefect who are found with a mirror next to them. Hermione had just realized the monster was a Basilisk. I bet you anything she warned the first person she met to look around the corners with a mirror first. And and that girl pulled out her mirror and.."
Ron's jaw had dropped. "and mrs. Norris?" He whispered eagerly.
Harry thought hard picturing the scene on the night of Halloween. "The water" he said slowly.. "the flood from moaning Myrtle's bathroom. I bet you mrs. Norris only saw the reflection".
He scanned the page in his hand eagerly. The more he looked at it the more it made sense. "The Basilisk only flees from the crowing of the rooster which is fatal to it" he read aloud "Hagrid's roosters were killed. The heir of Slytherin didn't want anyone near the castle once the chamber was opened (spiders flee before the Basilisk) it's all fits!".
"But how is the Basilisk been getting around the place?" Said Ron. "A dirty great snake! someone would have seen". However, Harry pointed at the word Hermione had scribbled on the foot of the page "pipes" he said. "Pipes! Ron, it has been using the plumbing I have been hearing the voices inside the walls"
Ron suddenly grabbed Harry's arm "The entrance to the chamber of secrets" he said hoarsely "one of these bathrooms.. what if it's in.. ?" "moaning Myrtle's bathroom" said Harry and they sat. Their excitement coursing through them hardly able to believe it.
