ترك دمبلدور مقعده وانتقل ليجلس على الأرض بجوار هاري وقال :"إذًا يا هاري، لقد اكتشفت مثل مئاتٍ قبلك متعة النظر في مرآة إريسيد!"

هاري :"لم أكن أعرف اسمها!"
دمبلدور :"لكنني أعتقد أنّك تعرف ما تفعله".
هاري :"إنّها.. حسناً.. لقد جعلتني أرى عائلتي!".
دمبلدور :"ورأى رون صديقك أنّه رائد المنزل".
هاري :"كيف عرفت؟".
قال دمبلدور بلطف:" لست في حاجةٍ إلى عباءة لكي ٱصبح خفيًّا.. والآن، هل تستطيع أن تعرف ماذا تُرينا مرآة إريسيد؟".
هز هاري رأسه بالنفي!

قال :"سوف أشرح لك.. إن أسعد رجل في العالم يستطيع أن ينظر إلى مرآة إريسيد كأنها مرآة عادية.. سوف يرى نفسه كما هو تماماً.. هل يساعدك هذا؟".

فكر هاري قليلاً وقال :"إنّها تُرينا ما نُريد أن نراه؟".

أجابه دمبلدور بهدوء :"نعم.. ولا.. إنها تُريك رغبات قلبك الدفينة.. أنت الذي لم تعرف عائلتك يوماً.. تراهم جميعاً حولك.. و رونالد ويزلي الذي يشعر بأنه أضعف من باقي إخوته، يرى نفسه الأفضل.. لن تُعطينا هذه المرآة المعرفة، أو تُرينا الحقيقة.. كثير من الرجال ضيعوا حياتهم، والبعض أصابهم الجنون.. ولم يعرفوا، إذا كان ما تظهره حقيقياً أو ممكناً! فسوف تُنقل المرآة غداً إلى مكان آخر.. لا تحاول البحث عنها.. لا تجري وراء الأحلام وتنسى أن تعيش الحياة، والآن لماذا لا ترتدي هذه العباءة الرائعة، وتعود إلى فراشك؟".

"So.." said Dumbledore slipping of the desk to set on the floor with Harry. "You like hundreds before you have discovered the delights of the mirror of Erised.

"I didn't think it was called that sir".
-"But I expect you've realized by now what it does?".
-"It.. well.. it shows me my family".
-"And it showed your friend Ron himself as a head boy".
-"How did you know?".
-"I don't need a cloak to become invisible" said Dumbledore gently. "Now, can you think what the mirror of Erised shows us all?"
Harry shook his head.

"Let me explain. The happiest man on Earth will be able to use the mirror of Erised like a normal mirror. That's he would look into it and see himself exactly as he is. Does that help?".

Harry thought. And he said slowly "It shows us what we want. Whatever we want?".

"Yes.. and no" said Dumbledore quietly. "It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest most desperate desire of our hearts. You have never known your family see them standing around you. Ronald Wesley who has always been overshadowed by his brothers sees himself standing alone. The best of all of them. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or Truth. Men have wasted away before it entranced by what they have seen. All being driven mad not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible. The mirror will be moved to a new home tomorrow Harry. And I ask you to not go looking for it again. If you ever do run across it you will now be prepared. It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. Remember that. Now, why don't you put that admirable cloak back on and get off to bed?".

أعتقد أن مرآة إريسيد من أعمق وأكثر الٱمور غموضاً في عالم السّحرة، من يدري ما الذي سأراه لو نظرت خلالها، أيًّا يكن ها هو دمبلدور وقد ألقى علينا أول كلمات حكمته في السّلسلة، إنّه شخصيّتي المُفضلة قطعاً.. ماذا عنكم..؟

I think that the mirror of Erised is one of the deepest most mysterious things in the wizarding world. And I'm not sure what will I see if I looked through it. Anyway, there he is Dumbledore giving us his first words of wisdom in the series. He is definitely my favorite character. What about you?
