One and Only

Chapter 22

Khalil POV

I drove into the garage and got Avaa's dress out the back seat while she went inside the house and straight to our bedroom. I knew she was feeling pretty down about me leaving, but I couldn't do anything. She knows why I have to leave and that I won't ever do some stupid shit in her absence, so I don't really see what else I can do about it. I shook myself out of my thoughts and went to put the dress in our closet and returned to Avaa in the bed.

"You need anything baby?" I couldn't help but feel bad. I hated seeing her upset over me.

"No, I just want to take a nap before we have to leave later."

"Ok, an hour sound good?"

"Mhm" she rolled over and closed her eyes. I watched her for a second before deciding to get in bed with her. I just wanted to hold her until she felt better, or at least until she went to sleep. At first I was spooning her, but she turned around and cuddled into my side with her hands under my shirt. Avaa was always most comfortable in this position, so it wasn't long before her light snores filled the room. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to go to sleep with her, I had shit to before this baby shower tonight, starting with what I'm going to wear. So, I slowly removed Avaa's hands from under my shirt and slipped out of bed, she started to stir in her sleep, but luckily didn't wake up. I went to the closet to find something to wear and since Avaa's dress was golden yellow, I had to wear something that matched.

After a few minutes of searching, I came across a golden yellow sweater shirt and paired it with a black pair of jeans and my matching color Air Max 97s. I decided  to wait a little while before putting on my outfit because I didn't feel like walking around and risking it getting messed up. Just as I finished up in the closet, my phone rang and Alayna's name flashed across the screen.

"Hey sis, what's up?"

"Hey, we're still coming to get Avaa ready for the shower, right?"

"Yeah, she's just sleep right now, so can y'all come in like half an hour?"

"Sure can, shit we should leave now because y'all live far as fuck now."

"Whatever Alayna, how's everything coming along?" I asked out of curiosity because in all honesty I had no idea what they were planning either. They just told me to make sure Av had a dress and looked nice and keep her busy all day.

"Nigga, you ain't slick. Didn't Sienna tell you that it was a half surprise for you too?"

"She did, but I'm-"

"No buts- you'll see when you get here."

"Ok Lay," I said dramatically and she laughed, "just let me know when you're here and what to do when y'all get here."

"That's more like it" she replied and I could almost see her smart ass nodding at me over the phone, "see you when we get there."

"K, see ya" I said and hung up, immediately dialing Jay's number. If the girls won't tell me what's up, I know my boy will.

Jay answering the phone jarred me out my thoughts, "Hey Jay, how's everything coming along?"

"Nice try. Alayna just told us that she just got off the phone with you and to not to tell you anything else about tonight." Fuck.

"And since when do you follow the rules?" I said toying at his rebellious side.

"Since Abriell told me that she wouldn't give me none if I ruined the surprise for either of you" Double fuck, "sorry bro, you know how it is" he said apologetically.
