Season Three, Episode Twenty-Three

Danny let me drive, which actually made me way happier than it should have, and though he was nervous about it originally I could tell he was happy about it in the end.

It was three o'clock when we left the precinct, and it wasn't until nine when we actually had someone to follow. Danny was sure that Santana had made us, especially when he squared the block and pushed through a yellow light. I followed despite the shouting for Danny as we basically ran a red light and nearly got slammed into by a large eighteen wheeler.

"God." It was said in astonishment, and I knew it was solely because we didn't get smashed into by a very large truck.

"Looks like he's pulled into a parking block around the right corner." The voice over the radio was an officer in Jameson's precinct, they were happy to offer their support after what had happened to Vinny and to Jameson.

"Thank you Romano," I muttered though I knew he couldn't hear me. "There he is!"

I pointed, pressing the brakes on the car and hearing the screech of the tires in the gravel as I pulled to a stop. Danny got out of the car before me, and I hurried out, noticing the fact that Danny was already shouting at the car as he went. I let Kenai out, and followed with a hand on my weapon at my hip.

Nona climbed out of the car, a purse on her shoulder.

"Where the hell is Santana?" Danny shouted, approaching Nona in a cautious way.

"Dropped him uptown." Nona looked between the two of us in a confused way, before immediately changing her attitude to one full of sass.

"So you've been drivin' this vehicle all nigh'?" I asked, relaxing slightly but not entirely letting my guard down.

I started to walk around the car as Danny continued the conversation with Nona. "Chercher  Kenai, chercher." I muttered, pointing her towards the car.

She started to snuff around the wheel's and front of the car. She made her way around the car once twice, before pausing at the back passenger door and taking a seat. Kenai looked at me and I smiled.

"Good girl," I muttered, bending at the knee and scratching at her head and ears in a way of praise.

The sarcasm in Danny's voice brought my attention back to Nona and him. He was asking about opening the trunk of the car and Nona told him to get a warrant and I was quick to reply.

"Actually, Detective Reagan and I have probable cause that you have drugs in this back passenger seat or door. My K9 has confirmed the suspicion, which gives us the right to open the door." I started to pat through my pockets looking for a pair of rubber gloves.

"You can't do that!" Nona started towards me and Danny grabbed her by the arm, pulling her back and nodding for me to continue.

I pulled the gloves on, and opened the car door. I poked and prodded at the seams of the seat and lifted the seat up to no avail, before moving and starting to look at the door.

I muttered to Danny as I worked, "These cars are made to specific specs Detective Reagan, I spent most of this morning looking them over in hopes of-" I cut myself off as the plastic covering of the door popped off, "Aha."

I grabbed the panel, setting it on the ground before slowly taking off the large saran wrapped block of cocaine or some other drug.

"I'm pretty sure that's not a factory option." Danny replied, before moving to grab his cuffs. "Nona Palmeira you are under arrest for possession of a controlled substance."

"That ain't mine!" Nona react quickly, trying to pull away from Danny who threatened her with adding resisting arrest to her list of charges.

I could tell it upset Danny having to arrest Nona, but I looked away, pulling my phone out and dialing Officer Romano's number.

"Romano, I need you to call a flat and come sit on this car until it arrives." I waited for Officer Romano's confirmation before hanging up the phone and making my way to the car.

Danny motioned that he would sit in the back and I nodded subtly, letting Kenai in the front seat and letting myself into the driver seat. I started the car, feeling the tension as soon as we pulled away. I felt strange about all of this.

The drugs were quite obviously not Nona's, Santana left them there so that someone could make a pickup, and I would only have to figure out how to make the connection of it all. I didn't want to have to give Nona to the Judicial system, she deserved so much better than that after everything that has happened in her life.

But we would have to wait and see.
