Wow, firsthand photos! I can't believe the luck of it! He (my frend) said he's fine with me sharing the photos, so here you go. Rio De Janeiro research. Of course, it looked very different in the 1930s, but here's what it looks like now.

Not sure what it is, but it looks like it would fit perfectly as a magical beast wandering the streets of Rio. I can picture it so clearly... kind of like the matagots in the Crimes of Grindelwald...
Imagine them lying in the sun, tails flicking and eyes narrowed as they stare apprehensively at people who slowly, cautiously walk past them. Imagine hundreds of them lying in alleyways- some on the floor and some on ledges, staring at you from all angles.
As I write this, I am downloading Rio (the movie about birds lol) because I have a free weekend and I want to watch a movie and Rio as "research."
