If we all really were dogs, and Phoenix really was a Dobermann, then she'd be a difficult dog. She needs commitment, care, and love. Once you give her all that, and once she starts accepting all that, she becomes the most loyal, most devoted dog there is. She's so loyal, and so devoted, that it's almost annoying. But only almost. Because by then you love her way too much to find her annoying. But what happens when things go wrong? When you don't give her enough commitment, care, and love? She'll growl. And she'll bite. And, worst of all, she'll run away.

Friday. I go to school. I get out of my car, bag over my shoulder, sunglasses on my nose, the darkest of dark circles underneath them.
"Hi, Phoenix."
"Ky."
I head to the school building, Ky walking - or rather jogging - beside me.
"I haven't seen you for a while. You weren't at school, right?"
"Oh I was. Obviously I was hiding underneath my invisibility cloak."
"You own an invisibility cloak? I wish I had one too."
I don't answer.
"So," he says. "You and Aze -"
"I don't want to talk about her."
