Chapter Six: Family First

Its been a few weeks and we're still undefeated so the vibe around campus has been a good one, and with this upcoming game against Kentucky we were destined for another win! After another long practice Yogi and I had to stay over due to curfew, coach Gillis continued to run us up and down the bleachers until he blew the whistle. When we made it down to where he was standing Pj collapsed on the ground, and I fell beside him. Y'all know I hate running my seniors y'all are suppose to lead by example, the next time this happens again I will have to suspend y'all, and we're getting close to the middle of the season, so shape up! We both nodded our heads then walked off the football field, man that's the last time I run some interference for you said Pj  I told him to shut up if it wasn't for me he wouldn't have been able to see Esaliya. When we made it back to campus we walked into the dorm room to see the girls sitting on the couch, and Bear on the floor eating a couple slices of pizza. We brought pizza Callie said loudly don't even talk to me woman it's your fault that we missed curfew said Pj hold on now if it wasn't for you blasting your radio in front of the campus y'all wouldn't have gotten caught said Imani. Hey stop all the fussing we have a spread laid out on the table I'd advise y'all to stop all the bickering, and dig in said Bear. I grabbed a slice of pizza, and went to my room when I turned on the lights I seen Mariah stretched out on my bed reading. I'm shocked to see you here said Lawrence well you needed clean sheets, and a comforter so Angelina brought you one up here so I went ahead and fixed up your bed. Thanks, I'm surprised your even talking to me right now last time I checked you were pissed at me?? I still am mad but not at you I was more mad at her because you deserve better boogie. I know but the problem is I don't even know which way to go I feel like I'm being pulled in two different directions. Mariah told me we're becoming adults not every decision you make is gonna be the best one, but the best decisions count in the long run, and it will benefit you. Yo Boogie coach just called a mandatory meeting let's be out said Bear I looked at her, told her thanks again for the advice then went on to the meeting. We were all gathered around the office looking at college football and they were making predictions on heisman candidates and the national championship game, Sports analysts Jacob Daniels Maria Whitaker and Bill Frazier were debating on which team is gonna ball out, when my name was mentioned the entire team started to cheer me on! Bill Frazier guaranteed I will throw for 400 yards and rush for 150 yard against Kentucky. During halftime we were up by three touchdown I was in the training room getting my ankle tapped coach Gillis didn't want us to let up this was a statement game, the next few quarters we continued to beat Kentucky in the air, and on the ground. By the end of the game we won 56 to 10 on the way back to the hotel I got a phone call from all of my siblings it's been a minute since we've spoke to each other, with Chris is getting drafted to the Baltimore Ravens. Naomi is in Atlanta, Angelina has been going back and forth from California, and Vanessa has been on campus with yours truly. I asked Chris how was that Los Angeles weather? Chris laughed and told me it couldn't be any better, I know that next week is a bye week for you were planning on going to the big house in Los Angelas so If I would fly you out to would you come? Is that a rhetorical question of course I'm gonna come bro! Cool because Angelina already invited the whole entire family including dad said Chris You invited the enemy to your house? Angelina stopped me dead in my tracks, and everyone was quiet she explained why he invited dad was because he heard about our argument so he wanted to make peace just so our family can grow, and the final reason was that Trae popped the question so I really want you to be there little brother. I understand that y'all are now trying to be on this whole we are family cliff and Claire Huxtable type of vibe but y'all can count me out on this one. Boogie would you shut up! I heard that familiar voice before so I clinched the phone closer to my ear and uttered the words "mom"Yes Lawrence she replied the tears immediately rolled down my face when I heard her voice. Now you listen to me young man I don't want to hear no lip from you just have your butt on that plane next week because if your not on that plane then I'm gonna give you a butt whooping so bad you won't live to tell your grandkids about it! I agreed to come out and hang with the family. When we made it back to the campus I already texted British to see if she could meet me in Cali, but she had to do a show in New York so she won't be able to make it. When I was packing my stuff to leave Mariah walked in my room to see what I was doing? I told her about the trip to Los Angelas I was thrilled to see my mom after 7 years. I asked her what was her plans this week? Well I've already aced my midterm so I'm pretty much gonna stay in this week what did you have in mind? I told her was she down to play hooky with me? You know I'm down for whatever!! I forgot he only sent me one ticket! Mariah pulled out her iPhone and checked southwest she went ahead, and booked us a flight which led us having an extra ticket. So what should we do about this extra ticket?? Bear burst through my door and asked we have an extra ticket to Cali, please take me bro! Now you know they don't have seats to accommodate all that baggage your carrying said Lawrence I know I put on a few pounds the last couple of weeks but come on bro If you trade in that ticket for four bus seats, you can invite Yogi, Pj, Teagan, Yogi, and Callie. Man what I look like inviting those two you know Callie and Chris can't stand each other. I agree with Boogie but I'm down for the cause said Callie.  Come on Boogie the gang needs a road trip, plus Yogi  knows some people out in California that can show us around you know we can find a couple of parties, and we can even catch a matinee said Bear. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around you just have to play that card said Lawrence he gave her those puppy dog eyes and I finally told him he can go! We're leaving out tonight so y'all butts better be on the bus tomorrow! He hugged both of us then rushed out the door!
