"holy shit," dejah entered the living room in search of her phone, hoping mattia hasn't called yet

"holy shit," dejah entered the living room in search of her phone, hoping mattia hasn't called yet. school started in thirty minutes and they planned to be late and just walk together to kill time during both of their first periods.

she could hear a slight series of vibrations, her hands moving quickly to dig between the couch cushion to pull out her phone. last night after mattia left, she crashed on the couch until around 2 a.m and then decided to go back to her room.

she had several messages. one from her mom letting her know she was on her way and then two more stating she decided to take another shift. her mom was a registered nurse so some times she tackled doubled shifts if it meant saving a couple lives.

another was from her softball groupchat. the girls were asking about conditioning and the schedule for practice. she quickly responded letting them know conditioning was next week and the practice schedule wasn't exactly confirmed.

the last one was sent twenty minutes ago from mattia. it kinda broke dejah into pieces when she read the text. so instead of rushing to get ready, she dropped her backpack on the floor and headed back upstairs so she could undress and fall back to sleep.

imagine being told i love you by the same boy you damn near give yourself up to everytime y'all meet up. you even help him get over his two timing ex only for him to text you and bluntly let you know jenna is picking me up, sorry.

not even in the mood anymore, dejah decided to just skip today. but she didn't want to seem bitter to mattia so instead she sent him a quick text.

"hey baby," dejah rolled over, her mom standing in her doorway with her bags

"hey baby," dejah rolled over, her mom standing in her doorway with her bags. she had on a thermal and sweats, something she usually threw on when she was off of work. "i got a call sayin' you were absent and you weren't picking up, so i came early,"

dejah checked the time on her phone, seeing it was two and school was out in thirty minutes. she also had missed calls from mattia and her mom. "oh wow," she quickly got up. "i was up and dressed but then i got kind of sick to my stomach and ended up going to sleep," she rubbed her eyes, then realizing her lashes were still on.

"have you ate?!" by now her mom was in her own room.

"no! my friends wanted to meet at in n' out after school, is that okay?!" she knew her mom would say yes because her mom was too sweet. if she mentioned a group of boys, she would question her till ends meet and they would be meeting up a different day.

"yes, but you have to be home by six since you didn't let me know you didn't go," her mom agreed.

"i don't plan in being out long," she decided to get up and get ready at this point. she found a baggy sweater and some grey leggings. "can you drop me off though?"

"no ma'am," her mom declared. "call an uber, i'm about to take a bath," she shut her door, not even giving her the time to answer back.

"okay," dejah didn't argue. her hair was a mess at this point. so she decided to throw on a wig as well as a beanie to hide the imperfections.

it took her almost fourty-five minutes to get ready— fix her lashes, apply lip gloss, make sure she looked decent and not like she was crying her eyes out.

"okay mommy! i'm leaving!" she made sure she had her things as well as her house key. mattia offered to pick her up but she already called the uber so now all she had to do was meet up with the boys and pretend to enjoy her time.
