AS LONG AS YOU WERE HERE

Shadows and fire
Within the firmament
Of my eyes, drown out
The living darkness that
Warms my heart and embraces
My soul;

Out of the windows of my eyes
I look upon our world together
And see nothing but shimmering
Darkness and splendid
Murkiness;

The trees blow in the wind
Of our breath, of our united soul
And we both weave in the heavens
And the Earth is but a moving sphere
Below our feet and we feel its movement
Below us with every passing moment that we
Are apart

For that moment when we are together,
That instant when all becomes clear,
All else is hazy winter days compared –
Oh, if only all life were made up of such moments,
And you were beside me for each of them,
Darkness would no longer be so shadowed and light
Would shine through every hour, every moment,
I would see all that would need to be seen within your arms,
And know all that would need to be known
As long as you were here beside me,
As long as you were here
