FOR DIANE

You might be away
But I'll love you
For ever and a day;

You might take these words,
Written between these white borders
And my heart,
Stores within my wide chest

Take these two,
My only way to express
My love for thee,
And destroy them as you wish;

Burn this page as swiftly
As you may tear and spike
This heart within me – the blood will flow
As ashes in the ocean deep;

But, please, take but a moment
To listen to the words
And look into my heart
Before you dash my soul on the splintered stones,

I may not know how to speak the words
Or fumble through the motions,
But I still feel the emotions as strongly as
The summers' breeze through our souls –

All I need is a moments' time,
A moments' eternal time,
And if all goes wrong and you wish me to leave,
Then I shall not speak another word, nor make another move.
