Even she couldn't remember how it happened anymore, Yue has always been thankful for having her.

And though they were so similar, they even had crushes on the same guy – they never really fought. Someone always gave way to the other.

The only time they really had a conflict was in college when Yue met Gao Zhi Ting.

He was a funny guy, active in the central student council, and became one of her ultimate crushes.

Dong Xin didn't really like him though and said he seemed too cocky.

Yue didn't mind though and always found herself volunteering for any of the projects Zhi Ting was involved in.

She really liked him but it seems he was more into her best friend.

She knows that Dong Xin did nothing to encourage it.

And her best friend even went as far as completely ignoring Zhi Ting just for her.

But Yue got angry.

She became bitter over it because she kept thinking how unfair it was that she who has done so much, who has done everything, would not be the one Zhi Ting would choose.

Why do teachers continue to tell students that as long as they work hard for something, they would get it when it isn't true? What was the essence of exerting so much effort but at the end of the day you find yourself a mere afterthought? Hell. She would be lucky if she was even Zhi Ting's afterthought.

Yue knew He wouldn't even think of her that way she thought of him.

Everyone around her knew how Zhi Ting felt – he wasn't exactly very good at hiding it. Like a lightbulb, he turned on every time Dong Xin was in the vicinity.

Zhi Ting ran as far as Dong Xin ran and Yue remembered hating it.

She hated it so much that from having the biggest crush on him, she became his number one enemy.

Yue even stopped talking to Dong Xin at the time until she learned that her best friend's mother had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

Suddenly, nothing else was more important than being at Dong Xin's side.

Despite the enmity that she caused, Yue went to Xin to apologize.

She felt all the more embarrassed with what she did because before she could even manage to say the message she so carefully prepared, Xin ran to hug her so tightly she almost lost breath the very moment she saw her and Yue promised to herself then that never would she let anything keep her apart from her best friend.

Dong Xin's mother died after a week of her diagnosis.

Zhi Ting came to Yue then.

"Yue, I really don't understand what happened. You were a good friend to me but somewhere along the way we lost that when I started to like Dong Xin" it was the beginning of the weirdest yet most enlightening conversation she has ever had with anyone "I still like her. I love her even. And I want her to know that and feel that, most especially right now. You may not like it. And you might end up angrier with me than you already are but I don't really care. I want to be there for her. EVEN IF THE BOTH OF YOU STOP SPEAKING TO ME, I WILL DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO LET THE BOTH OF YOU KNOW THAT I LOVE HER. I won't even ask for her to love me back. All I want is for her to just know that I love her and I am here."

Who is she, really, to stop Zhi Ting and take something like that away from her best friend?

That was a hard reality pill to swallow.

Yue knew she had no right to anything from the very start. Loving another person doesn't mean you own them.

She knew what she did to her friends was unforgiveable.

It took time but Zhi Ting eventually won Dong Xin over as Yue fell back in love with him too.

How could one not ask the heavens for Zhi Ting to love her the way he loved her best friend?

He gave everything.

He did everything.

He became everything he needed to be for her.

Everyone who knows tells Yue how she is the biggest idiot in the world for continuing to feel what she felt for Zhi Ting but two years ago, she already accepted she would be doomed to this feeling forever.

She had become so used to loving him like this, she didn't feel anything from it anymore.

She felt no happiness from it. She felt no pain from it.

Yue loves him but she would never do anything about it.

Her best friend deserves a man like that.

She doesn't.

She was selfish.

She let her anger almost destroy a relationship with the most wonderful non-biological sibling anyone could ever have.

Dong Xin deserved to be loved and treasured by Zhi Ting.

Yue didn't deserve anything.

She just did not expect that even though she knew it was going to happen, the news of their engagement would still hurt her.

She thought she had prepared herself for it. She thought her heart was frozen enough and numb enough to not be taken aback by this anymore.

She couldn't be more wrong.
