"Knight, ano ba?"

Hindi niya ako pinakinggan at nang pinahinto siya ng kanyang ina, bigla na lamang itong tumingin sa kanya at saka sinabing, "Don't stop me!"

He locked the door behind him as he tossed me to the bed.

"Ano bang problema mo, Knight?"

Hindi ko mapigilang mairita sa ginawa niya. Naramdaman ko ang galit na kanina pa niyang dinadala at mas lalo akong nainis dahil kanina pa sana niya ako sinimulang bulyawan kung iyon ang gusto niya nang hindi kami humahantong sa tulakan sa kama.

"Wala ka bang balak na sabihin sa aking may balak kang maging kadete?"

Namumula sa galit ang kanyang leeg at mukha at nagtitiim ang kanyang bagang.

Kaagad akong tumayo at saka sinimulang maghubad ng sapatos upang subukang pabalikin sa normal ang awra ng silid. "Ano namang halaga n'on sa'yo kapag sinabi ko?"

His eyes darkened when I said it but I have no regrets. Totoo naman kasi.

"Alam mo ba kung ano ang pinapasok mo?"

"Huwag mo nga akong sigawan!"

May kumatok na sa pinto at alam ko na lamang na si Ma'am Charlotte iyon. "Open the door this instant, Knight!"

"Stay away from this, Mom! You knew! You knew about this and you never even planned to tell me too!"

"Huwag mong sigawan ang mama mo!" suway ko sa kanya kaya naman bumalik sa akin ang matalim na titig niya.

"Ito ba ang ibig mong sabihin sa maraming gustong gawin? Sigurado ka ba sa pinaggagagawa mo sa buhay mo, Ren?"

"Bakit ba pinanghihimasukan mo ang desisyon ko?"

"I deserve to know!"

Naumid ako sa lakas ng pagkakasabi niya niyon dahil hindi ko inasahang iyon ang sasabihin niya.

"I deserve to know your plans so I could see how I could protect you! I vowed to myself right from that day that I lost you under the tree—I vowed to myself that I will do everything to find you and protect you! But of all places you might wish to go, Ren? Military? Really? Are you kidding me?!"

Napailing ako sa kanyang tinuran. "Wala akong hinihiling mula sa iyo na kahit ano. Lumaki akong kayang ipagtanggol ang sarili ko at mananatili iyong ganoon."

The banging from the door intensified and Knight got tired about it that he didn't mind about it at all.

"Is that so?"

Napatawa siya nang malamig at ako ay pinanindigan ng balahibo.

He raked his hand over his hair and started tugging the tie off from his neck. "You think you're strong enough, huh? Fight me off then, Ren."

Bigla akong naalarma sa kanyang tinuran nang tuloy-tuloy siyang magtanggal ng butones sa kanyang damit at saka agad-agad na lumapit sa akin.

It was too late of me to build my defences because he was always fast for these. In just a split second, he was on top of me and my hands were pinned against the sheets. His scent overwhelmed me as I felt his body against mine where only my uniform and his undershirt covered the contact.

"Knight, tumigil ka nga!"

Nangingilid ang aking luha ngunit ayaw kong ipahalata dahil mas lalo lamang niya akong uusigin.

"You're strong aren't you? Why don't you try and show me how you could protect yourself from men all over that place when you get there huh?"

He almost growled against my neck as he said it and I froze. He felt it as I let my whole body loose and get limped, giving up the fight.

Napaluha na lamang ako.

It somehow woke him up as I saw realization dawn in his eyes. He looked down on me and cussed.

"Shit, Ren. I'm sorry—I was not thinking—Ren, shit please don't cry," paulit-ulit nitong saad nang umalis na siya sa ibabaw ko at pilit na ibinabalik sa pagkakabutones ang aking blusa.

He retrieved my hands and kissed both of them and I saw him panicking, tears splattering down my cheeks. He was shaking and pleading for something—I couldn't hear him. My mind was on somewhere else and I don't care about myself anymore.

"Please talk to me," he said and it brought me back to my senses. He was still in his undershirt and the scent seemed to stick to me. "I'm sorry, Ren. Look at me."

As my thoughts went building up inside me, I did look at him straight in the eyes and said, "Tell me what  lies between you and me, Knight."

The look of shock was evident in his face as it blended with the guilt that's already carved on it. "Ren—

"It's self-control," I filled him in.

"Ren, I'm sorry."

He couldn't touch me. 

He was trying to touch me but I was not moving or even trying to stop him to but he felt it. The door then suddenly flew open and Ma'am Charlotte angrily walked in and pulled his collar.

It shocked me when she produced a hand gun. Knight didn't fight back. He received the big slap her other hand offered and I even jolted at the sharp sound of skin.

Kaagad akong tumakbo kay Ma'am Charlotte at saka ko ibinaba ang kamay niyang may hawak na baril. "Ma'am, tama na po."

"Huwag mong ipagtatanggol ang batang iyan sa akin," suway nito sa akin ngunit kaagad din naman niyang ibinalik sa kanyang kaluban ang baril. "Knight, hindi kita pinalaki para mamwersa ng kahit na sino!"

Tumingin si Knight sa akin bago siya sumagot sa kanyang ina.

"You knew all along, Mom. Don't tell me, you're going to let her be in the military? You knew how hard it is for anyone in there to actually live. This girl thinks she can protect herself. Why won't you show her your bullet scars, Mom!"

I was taken aback when he said it with weight.

I looked at his mother and guilt was written all over her face. She then looked at me and pulled me to a tight and melting embrace.

"Are you sure about pushing through, Renaissance? If you are sure about this, I swear that I will protect you using all my power while you train. If you won't push through, I am sorry to say this but that is going to be the best choice you could have made for your future."

I had no time to answer.

The tension in the room was so heavy that I almost fell ill of it. Ayokong sumagot sa kahit na anong sasabihin ng mag-ina sa ngayon.

"You're being too noisy here. I'm taking Renaissance with me so you could stop fighting. I hate it when my ears ring because of loud noises," ani Q na siyang nagpatahimik sa silid at walang nagawa ang mag-ina nang kumapit siya sa aking braso at sinimulan akong itakas palabas ng silid.
