Can a human and elf fall in love?

The Assassin Elf and Human mage asked themselves

I'm just a half prince, a mage that can only do few spells, a book for his art and lonely heart

Callum thought

I'm just an assassin that can't even kill, a girl that her parents brought dishonor by cowardy and has no meaning in life

Rayla thought

They both thought that they didn't deserve each other, they weren't good enough or had annoying problems. 

But they loved each other

One realizing sooner and the other later

Rayla never really knew what love felt like until she found Callum

Callum thought he knew what was love, but that love betrayed him and broke him, but Rayla helped him fix his heart

They had both gone through a lot, the human boy lost his mother and stepfather, his brother had gone to become king and his best friends had betrayed him. The elf girl had lost her parents and then was raised to kill, but she could never do so, finding no meaning in her life.

In the end, they found love in each other on a cold night, some days before getting to the dragon queen. They were both cuddled up, trying to sleep in each other's warmth when Rayla said " I love you" Callum's heart burst into happiness and he replayed "me too" and gave her a kiss in the cheek before drifting off to sleep.
