Blackmail (Jake Marshall x Self-Harm Reader)

Start from the beginning

It was quiet. I then remembered that all of the detectives must be out for that big investigation. I had to walk passed the evidence room guard station to get to my desk. As I walked past, I saw Jake sitting at his station. He looked up and waved at me, but I looked down and ignored him. I got to my desk and sat down. More reports covered the desk surface. I got to work filling out more. About an hour later, I was interrupted by a tap on my shoulder. I looked up and saw Angel. She came to deliver lunch to Jake and I everyday. I smiled, "Hey Angel. Thanks again." She smiled, then tilted her head and frowned, "What's wrong with you? When I gave Jake his lunch, he told me you completely ignored him." She then continued.

"He was wilting. Like overdressed kimchi." I shook my head, "It's nothing, Angel. Just drop it. Thanks again for the lunch though." She sighed, "Fine, fine. I'll see you later." She turned and left, taking the elevator back to the parking lot. I grabbed the wrapped lunch box and unwrapped it. I took the lid off and looked at the food. Then, I frowned. Inside was not (f/f), but Salisbury Steak. I stared at the food silently. I knew what Angel had done. She gave me Jake's lunch and gave mine to him.

This was her way of getting me to talk to him. I looked around. It was quiet. I picked up the lunch and made my way to Jake. When I got to his station, he was staring at the food, seemingly annoyed at not getting his steak. I sighed and dropped the lunch in front of him before grabbing mine, "Here." I turned and began to leave when I felt a hand grasp my wrist, "Wait, bambina. What's going on?" I pulled away from him, "Nothing Jake. Just leave me alone." I walked out and went back to working. Gant came out several times to observe my work.

Soon enough, the work day was over. I called a taxi and went back to the hotel, not bothering to let Jake know. I went to my hotel room and got ready for bed. My phone was ringing off the hook. Each call and text was from Jake. I didn't answer him. I went to my duffel bag and grabbed my razor out of it. I sat on the floor and pulled up my shirt. On the skin just below my stomach, on my waist, chief's was carved into the skin. I didn't make this mark. In fact, I was unconscious when it happened. But I do know who did it. Without a doubt, it was Gant. I took the razor and made cuts all around it.

I winced at the pain, but I kept going. After I felt satisfied enough, I stopped. I bandaged up my side and put the razor away. I looked towards my phone. It had stopped ringing. I stood up. As I did, there was a knock at the door. I went to the door and looked through the peephole. It was Jake. How did his know where I was?! Then, he spoke, "Please open the door, darlin'." With a shaky hand, I unlocked the door and opened it. Jake came inside and shut the door behind him, "Why did you leave the house? I got worried when I couldn't find you after work." I looked away, "I had to leave. I just had to." He frowned.

"Why? Is it something I've done, bambina?" I shook my head, "I can't tell you." He sighed, "He has you under his thumb too?" I tensed. He looked at me, "I...before you cut me off completely, just let me hold you one last time." I nodded silently. He embraced me and I hugged him back. Then, he looked down at me and suddenly, he kissed me. I froze for a moment before kissing him back. I ran my fingers through his hair, knocking his hat off. His hands held my sides and I winced. He pulled away and looked at me in concern, "Did I hurt you darlin'?"

I shook my head, "No. It's just..." His hands grasped the fabric of my long sleeved shirt, "May I?" I nodded, still tense. He lifted the shirt over my head, revealing both bandages. He looked at them silently before reaching for the one encircling my sides. He looked at me and I shall nodded. His hands slowly unraveled the bandages. They fell to the floor and I could see his eyes flicker to the word carved into my skin. I saw anger hiding in his eyes. He looked at me, his gaze softening, "I'll make sure that dirty bastard never lays a hand on you ever again, darlin'."

I felt tears welling up in my eyes. He unraveled the bandages on my arm, "Did he do this too?" I shook my head, "N-No. I did it." He then held me, trying to avoid the mark on my side. We sat in silence. Then, he lifted my wrist and started to kiss each cut. Once he kissed each one, I rewrapped my arm and my side. It was then that I decided to tell him the truth.

I spoke up, "Jake, I have to tell you something. It's about SL-9." His gaze hardened, "What about it?" I looked away, "I-I pushed Neil into the armor. I-It was an accident though!" He hesitated, "What about Prospector Skye's sister, Ema? She was there too." I shakily spoke, "All I remember is running towards Neil and Darke and touching a warm surface before hearing a yelp and passing out." He grasped my hands, "I don't think you did it, darlin'. You don't know what you touched. It was dark. It could've been Darke's body or Ema's arm you touched." I nodded and grabbed my phone, "You're right. It's time I do this then." I typed out a two-letter email to the man who made my life hell.

I quit.

I felt the weight get lifted off of my chest. I hugged Jake, "I quit Jake. I'm no longer a detective." He chuckled, "You did a good thing, darlin'." I went to speak, but he cut me off, "And don't worry about me. I can take care of it."

I smiled. I was no longer bound by the heavy chains held in Gant's hands. Now, I can be free.
