Why do I return to you

Why do I return to you for fresh bruises?
- because bruises fade & my loyalty and love always remained.

Short answer- I thought I was nothing without you.

Feathered kisses
Imprint my skin
Damp licks from nape
To ear
& I breathed in the wonder
As
Well
I didn't expect this
Such a twist in
The plot of
Us
My fingers used to trail over the ghost of you
Get caught in the problematic knots of your hair
Eyes were always trapped
In the moments of us
The questions of trust -
I could never answer
Our histories coloured our skins pink
Blue and black
My heart thrummed hopeful
Though yours liked to sneak off to occasionally
Speak with the devil
Or sing with the angels
Whispering keys
To unlock those most secretive parts of
Me
I had grown a kingdom of fairytale thorns
That your inner dragon-beast
Burned down
My insides smouldered
Forehead sweating against yours
As you stroked your fingers
Along the long lost rose garden of bruises
You had once left
Dancing across my neck
Only you could still look into me
Whilst I could only
Look far away into fairyland
Birds danced across the gardens dewy gras
& I wondered why I came
Back
To the one who
Locked, unlocked and destroyed
The parts of me
That my dreams had strained so
Confidently to make a home
Within me
