Chapter 28: Finding Friends in the Wrong Places

Start from the beginning

"Olivia loved her magic, no matter who wanted to seek her out for it. Anyone who knows anything about her knew that her magic made her feel special never like an outcast or target. It's not like you'd understand since you're just a regular vampire." I comment and he drops his documents to look over at me,

"Boys let's not argue." My mother cuts in

"No I wouldn't know about that but I do know that I'm happy she doesn't have it. If that makes me a bad father then so be it. I'd rather have kids who weren't targets." I scoffed and stood up,

"You mean you'd rather have normal kids," I reply before leaving the room.

"Way to go Damien." I heard my mother reply glumly.

"What? I never said that." I headed down the hall to my room and shut the door.

Later that night, after a rather poor attempt to get some sleep I decided to go for a late run

Later that night, after a rather poor attempt to get some sleep I decided to go for a late run. It was so late at night that all the staff were sleep and they rarely sleep. My cursed had returned to me but not completely. Like when I'm angry I don't feel it creeping in and I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

This run would clear my head and also give me a chance to see if I still had my cursed at least. So I grabbed an extra gown, threw on a cloak and snuck out the castle to the woods. I placed the extra clothing by a tree and shifted. It hurt a little more than I would expect but once in my full wolf form, I sliced the tree to make it easier to find later.

I stretched a little and then took off through the woods. Rows and rows of trees whipped past me and the wind rustled through my face. I smiled and this time it was a genuine smile. I loved the dark sky and the cool breeze that was coming in. But most of all I loved that my cursed was back. I've never run in my cursed form just to run.

I figured town people would try and seek me out or complain about it. But so far, this has been the quietest run I have ever been on. The only thing I can hear is my own thoughts and the sound of my paws hitting the ground. Then someone stepped right in front of me. I pressed my paws into the dirt to stop myself from colliding into them. Thankfully, I stopped a few inches in front of them.

What are they nuts?! Who just steps right in front of a curses path? Do they have a death wish? A mere collision with my massive body is enough to smash them into a tree. I look over this person as if they just dropped their brain on the floor. The person removes their cloak and I see that it is a woman. Must be another town member. I look around for my clothing and ironically I was right next to the tree where I left my fresh clothes. I walk over to the tree and step behind it,

"You're the princess Olivia right?" The woman questions. I shifted back into my regular form with ease and slide on my gown.

"Yes, that's me," I comment

"I've heard all about you. Your gifts are-"

"A disgrace? Yeah, I've heard the whole 'You're a monster' speech so if you're here just to say it then you've wasted your time." I reply as I slip my arms into the sleeves.

"Actually, I was going to say remarkable." I peak my head around the corner,

"Remarkable?" I question. What kind of townswoman is this? I looked her over. She had long brown hair and a sharp-angled jaw.

"Who are you?"

"So sorry, my name is Tova."

"Well, Tova, you must not be from this village. All villagers hate me or are afraid of me." I comment while slipping my cloak on.

"Not all of us. And I actually am from this village." Huh..then she must be a nutcase.

"Well, it was nice to meet you," I reply as I head towards my castle. What an odd woman.

"I heard about your magic." The strange woman calls out and I stop walking. No one knows about my magic being gone except the royal family. I turned around slowly,

"How do you know about that?"

"Town gossip. But I think I can help you with that," I wanted to laugh coldly right in her face. A villager? Help me bring back the very magic that they fear?

"Um, why would you do that?"

"Us witches have to stick together." She smiles and I hesitate. If she knows something that I haven't tried then perhaps she could help. Should I risk it? What if she's a spy for Selles or worse the scared? But how would either party know about the loss of my magic? It's unlikely that either of them are involved...which means I should take that risk.

"How do I know you're telling the truth? What if you're not a witch at all?" I question as I walk over to her. As much as I want to take the risk something in my body is not letting me trust this. No matter how desperate I am. The woman smiles before raising her palms. Suddenly the ground started rumbling as if it was about to crack right open. I looked around gape-mouthed. She was the real deal! I looked back at her and she lowered her hands and the rumbling ended.

"Let me help you gain your magic back." She offers with an outstretched hand. I smiled as excitement buzzed around in my gut. She was my ticket back to magic and I couldn't wait to feel my gift return back to me. I shook her hand,

"Let's get to work then."
