"Meaning?" Jace sighs again
"I didn't put her first when you were gone. I put everything I could in front of her, and it separated us. I said a lot of things that I shouldn't have and ignored a lot of things I shouldn't have."
"Did you...strike her?" I question, and his head shot up.
"You think I would hit my child?"
"When I grabbed her wrist, she flinched and felt afraid. Why would she feel that way?"
"Something happened between her and some spy we had a while ago. He was buying her drinks at the tarvan and probably scared her."
"I'm sorry, did you just say that our teenage daughter was getting drinks from a grown man?!" I question furiously
"I already took care of him." Jace answers
"Is that all he did to her?" I question
"Yes...I suppose."
"You suppose?"
"I didn't exactly ask him about it after I gutted him. I just knew from the look on Gaia's face when she admitted to skipping school with him that he did something. So I killed him."
"Skipped school? So let me get this straight, our daughter admitted to you that a grown man who supposedly worked for us was buying her drinks and may have done something to her, and all you did was kill the guy before finding out if he actually assaulted our child?!" Jace starred for a moment as if he was just processing this for the first time.
"I didn't...I mean we didn't talk about it."
"You just said she admitted it to you."
"She said it when she was angry. I was angry and told her to stop whoring herself to older men-" I smacked him across the face. How dare he?! I don't care how angry he is, the moment our daughter admits an older man is trying to pursue her he should never shame her. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Jace's face reared to the right as he rolled his jaw.
"That man could have raped our daughter, and you just called her a whore! You just managed to make her feel thirty times worse than she already felt after what he did to her! I don't care how angry you feel, but you should have never ever said those words to your own child. A child that you helped make and bring into this world in the first place."
"You don't think I know that? You don't think I already feel ashamed and guilty for the severed relationship between the two of us. I pushed my own child away because I was too busy trying to get you back. Getting you back was my top priority instead of my own daughter, and I regret that. I regret that I wasn't there when she needed me. I regret that she turned to drinking in the first place. I regret that he even got close to her in the first place, I've blamed myself more times than you can count."
"I hate the fact that my only daughter believes that I don't love her as much as I love her mother. No child wants to feel that way. I know I hated feeling that way with my own father. I knew he never loved me and yet I still wanted him too. I vowed that when I had my own children, I wouldn't make them feel that way. I would love them with everything that I had and now look at me. Look at how much I screwed up! Look at despite all that I've done I still managed to turn into my father!" Jace argues as two tears dropped. I moved swiftly to his side and wrapped my arms around him. He hesitates for a moment before wrapping his arms around me and sobs.
"You are nothing like your father, Jace. You could never be that man. He may have made you but he nothing like you. You are the very opposite of everything that he stands for. I know you love Gaia, you just did a bad job at showing it. Both of us have failed her, not just you. It will take time, but we can still repair the damage between us. She's our daughter, and she's all that we have." I reply as I rub his shoulders. For a moment he didn't say anything.
"Alina, I erased your memories to protect you." he mummers and I slowly pull away from me.
"Protect me?" I question
"They threatened to...I had to do what they said."
"What who said? Your not making any sense." I reply as his blue eyes looked into mine.
"I did what they told me to because they threatened to kill you. I couldn't lose you, I had just found you. It took half of my power to do it, but I managed to take most of them away. I hated lying to you and lying about who you are. But I did it to save your life, and I would do it again." I stood up from the bed and looked at him,
"Who told you to do this to me?" I question as he continues to look at the space where I was just sitting. Finally, he looked over at me,
"The Sacred."
