Chapter 19: Pulling all the Strings

Start from the beginning

"Stop looking at me like that," I demand

"When you stood between us, you were protecting him not me."

"I was protecting the both of you," I reply and he shakes his head while stepping even closer to me. I haven't been this close to him in months. His scent invaded my nostrils, and I wanted to reach out and touch him. I missed him and his touch. His blue eyes looked icy as he glared down at me.

"Look me in my eyes and tell me that." I looked up at his eyes but found my mouth unable to form words. We stared at one another before he backs away.

"You still love him."

"I don't, I just-"

"You just what? Please tell me that I'm making it all up."

"I-I just got all my memories back. I'm allowed to feel some way about my first love." I argue, and his glaring look disappears. A new look appears, a look that I haven't seen on him since I came into his life. Pain. He looked away from me as he wiped imaginary dust from his pants,

"I see."

"I'm not saying that I don't love you, Jace," I reply quickly as the feeling of pain spreads through my chest. I knew it was not mine but my soulmates. I walked swiftly to him and touched his face lovingly. He looked me in my eyes for a moment before pulling away from my touch. I felt a sting from that.

"You can't love us both."

"That's not fair, I'm just now getting these emotions back, and you get to make me feel horrible for them," I argue as his icy eyes return. The pain in my chest was still there.

"I took your memories because-" Someone cleared their throat and we both looked over to spot Gaia starring between the two of us. Jace excuses himself and walks out of the room. I feel a longing nudge in me that was encouraging me to follow him. Gaia steps inside the room slowly, how much had she heard?

"My Gaia," I smile as I touch her light pink cheeks. Had she learned makeup?

"Mama,"

"It's so good to have you back. To have my little family back." I smile as I pull her in my arms once more. I kiss the top of her head before she slowly pulls back,

"We haven't been a family in a long time mama," I narrow my eyes

"What do you mean?" I question, and Gaia scoffs. I scanned her face and could see a hardness forming in her once soft brown eyes.

"Did something happen between you and your father?" I press and Gaia looks at me before pulling away.

"Papa and I have not been close since you left."

"I didn't leave you, I saved you," I reply while moving a brown curl from her face. She backs up from my touch. Once again I felt the sting of having my touch be unwanted.

"No, you left me. You left me with the worst person. Papa was not strong enough to be strong for both of us. Once he lost you, he was a brand new person. He didn't care about me."

"Gaia Andrea D'Auvergne, your Papa loves you. And so do I. I made that choice to save your life, and I would gladly do it again." I reply, and she narrows her eyes at me.

"Papa loves you, not me! He has shown that countless times he would pick you over me any day. He has wrecked me, and you would gladly do it again? I don't feel saved, I feel worse than I did the day you wouldn't wake up." I was taken back by her words. Jace loves his daughter that I know to be true. Perhaps he and I need to talk about what happened between the two of them. Gaia scans my face before shaking her head like her father,
