"Let me buy you an ale."

"You don't even know my name." she chuckles.

"Tell me, my name is Selles." She hesitated for a moment before turning around to look me up and down,

"Alina." Alina, what a fitting name.

"Will you let me buy you a drink, Alina?"

"Maybe I'll meet you there," she replies before heading off. I follow behind her but try to make it seem like I wasn't trailing her. She was the one who knew where the town was.

I sat at the tavern when the sunset and waited for this mystery woman. She was unlike any village woman I have ever encountered. Smart, witty, and she was by no means shy. I wanted to get to know her, then I would figure out the calling. I looked out the window after what felt like hours of waiting. I swirled my drink around and scanned the room. I saw no sign of her. I guess I was getting the wrong signals. I stood up from the bar and handed the barkeeper some coins.

"Someone left this for you." the barkeeper comments as he hands me a small cloth. I thank him and look down at it,

' I don't drink ale, try again Selles.'

I laughed and pushed the note in my pocket. So she wanted to be chased? Little does she know, I do that for a living.

"Selles! Hello!" Rose shouts, and I jump.

"What?"

"I asked you a question, and you've been spaced out."

"Sorry," I grumble as I clutch Alina's body close to me.

"You didn't say anything about bringing sleeping beauty with us." I chuckle

"I never told you the full plan. Just know that Alina was essential."

"Essential how? She can't do any magic, and I don't see any other use for her."

"Look, Alina is my woman. There was no way I would leave her behind. Besides for all the horror I have planned for that family, she doesn't need to be there."

"But Damien is safe, right? You said I would get him in our deal."

"Yes yes, you can have your lover. But he wouldn't be much of a trade since he'll be a shivering mess with the loss of his mate and children."

"Don't worry about that. I can make him forget all about them." Rose smiles as she leans back in the boat. Her obsession over a man that slept with her a few times was downright pathetic but if it got her to do what I needed, oh well. I looked down at Alina and moved a stray curl from off her forehead. I saw the hex burned into her flesh and growled in frustration. Who was the genius to put this spell on her? Granted I did almost kill her daughter, but she should have let her die. We would make our own, but she was unaware of that.

"How much longer until we reach Orwich?" I question. The sooner we get there, the sooner I can remove this hex and see her once more.

"Patience," Rose replies as the familiar sounds of thunder roll in. Rose must have cast the spell while I was daydreaming. The ocean stirred as the dark clouds swarmed around our small boat. The water swirled as a bright light illuminated from out the growing portal. Rose looked over at me,

"Ready?" she questions as she stands to her feet. I stand as well but titter a bit backward from the light rocking of the boat. Why couldn't we just row the boat into the portal, must we jump in. I give her a nod, and she gets on the edge of the ship and dives into the glowing waters. I grip Alina tightly before I stand on the edge.
