Chapter 16: Take all that I have

"Where is it? Is this book a map?" Drax questions

"Well, Olvard is a passage. All we have to do is open the book, and a portal will come out." They both looked a bit more skeptical

"A portal?"

"Watch." I flip open the book and turn a few pages like the girl from the library did, but the pages didn't start flipping themselves. No portal came out either. I stared quizzically at the book and even flipped it on the other side. Nothing happened,

"Hmm, maybe it doesn't work?" Gaia chimes in

"It works, I just saw the girl do it." I flipped the book back over and scanned the page. The girl was wrong. It was not a passage, it was a spell.

"What girl?" I scanned over the first ingredients and felt my stomach drop to the ground. I lowered the book slowly and looked at them,

"What?" Something isn't right. How would she have known... It couldn't have been.

"Olivia! Your kind of freaking us out." Drax chuckles nervously

"I think I...I think I met a Sacred witch."

"A what?! What happened?"

"How are you still alive?"

"I don't...I don't know. I should've known that she was odd from the color of her eyes. But she gave me this book to help me find Olvard. She said it was a passageway, but when I open it, it's just a spell. She must have used her magic to show me a passage. But this spell..."

"How do you know it wasn't just one of the hundred of witches that we have at the school?"

"Yeah, maybe it wasn't a Sacred witch at all."

"This spell requires the blood of a tainted soul. The only one with a tainted soul here is you Drax. And the only reason your soul is tainted is because of-"

"Julianna." Drax finishes

"But that doesn't mean that-"

"That mark on the back of Julianna's neck, I know what it was."

"You said it was just a hex."

"I know what I said. But it's only half true. It's not just any hex; it's the Sacred hex. After the person they hex complete their task, they die. Julianna would have died anyway whether you had pushed her or not."

"Wait wait hold on," Drax comments as he closes his eyes to process this information

"The Sacred knew your soul was tainted and that's why they gave us this spell. They planted Julianna there just so something could happen to her which they knew would all so we could complete the spell."

"So we don't go." Gaia questions

"We have to,"

"No, we don't! If what I'm hearing is true, we could be walking into a trap."

"Yeah well the moment we step out of here, those guards are on shoot to kill orders. We are dead either way."

"So what do we do?"

"We go, we find a way to defeat Selles, and then we come back home. If the townsfolk know that we're trying to defeat a hunter maybe they will ease off."

"Maybe they will?"

"Look we don't have a lot of options here. As horrible as the Sacred maybe they gave us our first clue."

"Yeah by making me kill someone! That doesn't seem frightening to you?"

"Of course it is. The Sacred is one of the scariest people I have ever met in my life. But the point is they gave us a head start." Gaia stands to her feet and starts pacing,
