Chapter 2: Surprise Inspections

They were so used to this already, they had a routine. Sawyer and Colton headed for the matress and Atlas picked up stray things left around the unit. Colton slid into the hole and grabbed items from Atlas. Once everything was in Sawyer closed the hatch dropping the mattress

You could practically hear the teenager's hearts beating as they tried to come up with a plan to avoid suspicion. When the door slid open Atlas did the only thing he could think of and he pushed forward crashing his lips into Sawyer's

Her eyes widened and she stood frozen for a second before her body naturally melted into the kiss and she kissed back. The guards stood shocked at the makeout that they walked into before Commander Shumway passed looking to see what stopped his team 

"Rush!" Sumway yelled causing the teens to pull away at the authoritative voice and the use of Atlas' last name. "Your supposed to be on duty" Sumway said putting his arms behind his back. Atlas looked up checking the clock "In 10 minutes" he responded shaking his head

"Exactly, now use those 10 minutes to clear your head not for distractions" Atlas nodded and smiled to Sawyer before passing the guards and leaving the room. He knew he had created a distraction 

Inspections were supposed to be 3 minutes and Atlas had already wasted 1 and a half leaving less time for the guards to search the unit. But that wasn't the only reason he was smiling

Sawyer's Age: 15

"Increase the anesthesia! She's waking up" Meredith yelled as she pumped on the injured factory girl's chest. Sawyer eagerly nodded and ran over to the medicine cabinet. She pulled out a small jar and a thin needle. Rushing over to the IV bag Sawyer's hands shook as she tried to get the needle into the hole 

"Sawyer hurry up!" Meredith yelled. "Got it!" Sawyer said loudly as she got the needle into the hole. She sucked up the liquid before inserting it into the IV bag 

In the factory station a fight broke out between 2 grown men. In attempts to control the fight a guard jumped in. After being tackled his gun accidentally fired out piercing the girl in her rib

Both Jameson women had surgical gowns on and masks. Sawyer's adrenaline was pumping as she worked hard to keep up with her mother 

"Pull it out on 3" Meredith instructed. Sawyer nodded eagerly and rushed over to the other side of the operating table. "1" Sawyer let out a slow breath as she grabbed her large forceps

"2" She lowered the light trying to get a good view on exactly where the bullet was 

"3" Sawyer swiftly and u lifted the bullet out from between her ribs 

Sawyer and Meredith let out a large sigh, the heard part was over being that the bullet was out. "She damaged a lot of tissue" Meredith commented as she examined the insides with a forcep 

"Alright let's patch her up" Sawyer said passing her Mother a needle and string for the girl's stitches

"Whoo!" Sawyer and Chris cheered as her soccer team scored. "No!!" Atlas cried out in annoyance. Sawyer bursted out laughing at his lack of sportsman ship 

"See that momentum you gotta keep that going!" Chris said clapping loudly as she hunched over 

The 3 sat on the couch watching an old soccer game over the projector. It was something they did weekly. Cole had been across the hall in Sherri's unit

"Yes baby! C'mon another one" 

"Go! Go! Go!"

"No block him! Block him! Oh my god number 4 do something!"

Screams erupted from the unit. Sawyer and Chris's team scored again causing them to jump up again hands up. "Right here kid!" Chris yelled throwing his hand up for Sawyer to give him a high five. Sawyer slapped his hand and fell onto the couch in excitement while Atlas sat there hunched over covering his face in defeat 

"We're just unbeatable" Chris said throwing himself on the couch 

Sawyer leaned over into Atlas's ear "Prepare for a crushing defeat" she whispered into the boys ear 

"Oh it's not over yet" Atlas challenged. "Actually it was over 147 years ago" Sawyer corrected "A technicality" Atlas said shaking his head making Sawyer and Chris laugh

"What'd I miss?" Meredith asked coming through the front door. "Your husband and daughter being obnoxious" Atlas said pointing to them 

"Chris, you better play nice" Meredith playfully scolded as she placed her bag down on the table. She walked over behind Chris and wrapped her arms around him kissing his cheek to which Chris smiled at and held her close 

"Come on, get down the field, fire" Atlas yelled to the projector 

"Its a waste of time your team sucks" Chris teased shaking his head at Atlas's false hope 

Atlas's team for once got in the lead making him overly confident "This isn't gonna last" Sawyer said shaking her head

"What was that about momentum? Oh, oh, I feel the momentum" Atlas said
