Chapter 14: Always Watching

Start from the beginning

I spotted Julianna standing by the fire. She had her red hair pushed back the way that I loved and even wore the same dress that I bought her for her birthday. I came up from behind her and wrapped my hands around her eyes. She gasped,

"Who's a tall, dark-haired, devilishly handsome man?"

"Hmm?" she replied in her sweet voice.

"The King?" I dropped my hands

"The King??" She turned around and laughed while throwing her arms around me.

"I'm kidding." I wrap my arms around her waist and embrace her for the first time in front of all my friends and family. Well, not my entire family but Olivia and Gaia count as family. She looked more beautiful than the last time I saw her. She let go of me, and I let go of her.

"Let's grab a pint." she encouraged as she grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the barrels of ale. I followed behind her but felt it was odd that she was drinking since she was never fond of it before. The person in charge of drinks poured us two pints and sent us on our way. I stole some glances at her as she drunk the pint and tried to mask my surprise. She drowned the whole pint before I was even halfway finished with mine. She set her cup down and eyed me. I set my cup down as well,

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I question with a smile, and she laughs while swinging her long hair from side to side. The moonlight glint in her light brown eyes and it made me have this urge to kiss her.

"No reason."

"Hmm," I comment before finishing off my pint. Julianna grabbed my arm,

"There's something I want to show you." I let her pull me off deeper into the woods. She finally stopped near these chopped down trees and pointed to this stack of small axes. There had to be at least a dozen of them. She walked over to the pile and pointed to them,

"Look." she smiled

"Yeah I see, it's just a bunch of axes." Why would she bring me here?

"I was thinking...maybe you can use your powers on these."

"My powers? Julianna, you know how I feel about using magic."

"Oh come on. It'll be fun." Julianna smiled. Why is she encouraging me to use magic?

"Julianna, I'm not going to use my powers on some axes. Now let's just go back to the party." She pouts as I hold my hand out to urge her to go first. I just wanted to go back to the party and forget this even happened. She knows that I don't like my magic. Olivia is downright obsessed with using her gift, and I'm glad that she enjoys it so much, but I hate it. It makes me feel so much like a freak for having so many genetic makeups in one body. Julianna knew that because it was one of the first things that I confessed to her. She always listened and never made me feel like an outcast. I love my sister and cousin dearly, but it just feels like they encourage magic use if even it isn't necessary.

"Your no fun." she pouts as she twirls drunkenly. I roll my eyes and turn around. Next thing I know an axe comes hurling past me and hits the tree that is a few inches from me. I turn around quickly and look at her as if she had lost her mind.

"Did you just throw an axe at my head?!"

"No." she lied before laughing.

"Julianna, this isn't funny. That thing almost killed me."

"It did not. You're a vampire you can't die."

"Um, I most certainly can die from an axe to the head."
