29: Turned Off

"Bee, they aren't here yet," Jungkook said, a concerned look on his face, "They radioed ahead, that means they were close, right?"

"It's okay," Hyungwon said, "They mentioned there was a horde coming, maybe the horde beat them to the gate and they're circling around so they don't get-"

"I didn't unlock the gate!" Thalia cried, jumping to her feet, "I forgot to unlock it, I was in such a hurry!"

There was silence in the room, until Bee got to her feet, "I'll go," She said, "I'll unlock it for them,"

"Don't be stupid!" Jungkook also jumped to his feet, "If the horde are still there and you unlock the gate, they'll get in and kill you!"

"They won't see me," Bee said confidently, "I'm-"

"No," Jungkook crossed his arms over his chest stubbornly, "Jimin and Hyung will never forgive me if I let you go. They probably have a plan, and if we go running out there, we'll ruin it,"

"He's right," Daisy said, "Jin's out there, too, Bee, and I want him back, but right now, we need to keep ourselves and baby Breea safe,"

Bee took a deep breath and nodded, "Yeah," She agreed, "Sorry, that was stupid. I just..." She trailed off, looking down at her baby, who was sleeping peacefully in the basket.

"We understand," Hyungwon said gently, "But for now, we should just keep calm and sit tight,"

"I'm so stupid," Thalia muttered, her eyes filling with tears as she slumped back into her seat, "How could I forget something so important?"

"Everyone makes mistakes," Jungkook said, trying to keep the situation calm. He was extremely worried about those who were outside the gates, but he felt like he had to stay strong for the remaining people; especially Bee and Breea, "It'll be oka-"

"This mistake might have killed someone!" Thalia snapped, "I-" She sighed when Jungkook's face fell, "I'm sorry, Jungkook, I just..." She got to her feet and left the lab. Hyungwon followed her, and Jungkook heard the door to the storage room slam closed.

"Don't worry, Jungkook," Daisy said softly, "She didn't mean it. She's just upset,"

Jungkook nodded and sank back into his own seat, his eyes low.

"None of that, please," Bee said to Jungkook as she lifted Breea, who had just woken, "We don't want to see you upset. Here, hold Breea while I get myself some water,"

Jungkook couldn't help but smile as Bee placed the baby in his arms. Daisy laughed when the sound of flapping and clucking from a coop by the door grew loud suddenly.

"Little is jealous," She said, "Of Breea,"

"Which is why she will stay in her coop until we leave the lab," Bee said, sitting back down, "That hen is way too attached to you, Jungkook,"

Jungkook smiled, his cheeks flushing, "She's cute,"

"Shit," Yoongi muttered, gently smacking his palm on Jimin's cheek, "Open your eyes, Jimin, you need to stay awake,"

"I'm awake," Jimin's voice was more like a croak as he slowly opened his eyes, "I'm fine,"

Yoongi turned to Shownu, "I don't know what to do, he's burning up! How deep was the bite?!"

Shownu emptied the last remains of his water bottle onto a rag and placed it on Jimin's forehead, "It was deep," He looked up at Yoongi, "Do you think..." He trailed off, looking back down at Jimin.

"He's not going to turn," Yoongi growled, "I won't let him!"

"No, I wasn't going to say that," Shownu said quickly, "I just thought that maybe if we... took the arm he might survive,"

"It's too late," Jin said quickly from behind the wheel, "He's already sweating and loosing conciousness. The infection has already spread,"

"Shit!" Yoongi cried, "We need to get inside!"

"Try the radio again," Jin ordered, and Shownu quickly picked up the radio from the seat and flicked it on.

They were at the back of the manor house and could see that the horde had almost completely passed the grounds. They had tried the radio a few times, but couldn't get through; Jimin said that it was because they were most likely in the basement, and he was glad that they were safe.

"Come in, anyone, come in," Shownu said into the receiver, "Somebody answer!"

There was nothing in static in the air, and Shownu lowered his arm and shook his head, "Nothing,"

"Sergeant?"

Yoongi snatched the radio as soon as there was a sound through it and lifted it to his lips, "Taehyung? Is that you?"

"Yoongi," The voice sounded a little disappointed, but Yoongi didn't care.

"The gate is locked. We need it unlocked, Jimin is-"

"I'm not unlocking it until all the dead ones are at a safe distance," Came the voice, "You just have to wait,"

"Jimin is dying!" Yoongi yelled into the speaker, "Unlock the fucking gates! He's been bitten!"

There was a pause before Taehyung spoke again, "That isn't my problem. When the dead ones are gone, I'll unlock the gate,"

The line went dead.

"Taehyung God fucking damn it!" Yoongi yelled, "Open the fucking gate! Taehyung!"

He slowly looked up at Shownu. There wasn't even static now on the line.

"He turned it off," He said softly, "He's not going to help,"
