I bit back a giggle at the two boys sitting on the couch behind Victor. They were making faces at me, sticking their tongues out and crossing their eyes. Every time Victor turned around they looked away with innocent faces.

That wasn't quite what had me in a fit, though. A few minutes into Victor explaining to me how training was going to work, I got that same nudge in the back of my mind. It terrified me for a moment. I thought that demon from before was going to blind me with pain again but it wasn't him.

It was the snickering boys sitting a few feet away.

They weren't saying anything important, really. More so, they were telling jokes and being childish. When Victor turned around with suspicious eyes, one of the boys would make me laugh so that he turned his wariness on me.

"You really have to concentrate, Sang. I didn't even get this down until a few years ago and I'm almost as old as the Earth."

I took a large breath to calm myself, "Right, sorry, yes, what do I do?"

Gabriel made a licking motion, I air-licked your cheek. It's mine now.

Luke rolled his eyes, Don't listen to him. You're my cupcake, aren't you?

My calm facade broke, giggles spilling out as a blush rose up my neck. Having them speak in my mind was somehow less intimidating than when they speak out loud. I was still shy, just not as much.

Victor's face clenched in confusion.

"I'm sorry, Victor. I have a question, though. How come you guys have never spoken to me in mind before?"

His eyes widened comically before he spun around, "That's what you two are doing! I told you, she needs quiet."

They shrugged, not caring whatsoever. Luke grinned, "We are being quiet. Not making a peep, actually."

"You know that doesn't count. Don't make me kick you two out."

I couldn't help my giggle, "Yeah, Luke, Meanie, don't make him kick you out."

Gabriel narrowed his eyes, "Oy, you're not my boss, Trouble."

"No, but I am," Kota threatened from the doorway.

My eyes jumped to him. He had come inside at the perfect time. Gabriel and Luke both winced as they were caught.

Kota sighed exasperated, "Come on, you two, Mr. Blackbourne needs you and Sang needs peace."

They both groaned but did as he said. Before leaving, Luke booped my nose and Gabriel ran a hand through my hair. Kota turned away, winking at me secretly before following the duo.

Victor looked at me, "Good, no more distractions. You ready now?"

I nodded, grinning, "Yep."

"Sang, really. I don't want what happened to you to ever happen again. Please take this seriously. The sooner you get this down the sooner we can all sleep with some peace of mind."

I sobered myself, "I know, Victor. I'm ready. No more voices in my head, promise."

He cracked a smile and shook his head. "Alright. First things first, you need to figure out how exactly to build a barrier. Everyone does it differently. Some people focus on emotions, others use their imagination. You'll have to find what fits you best."

I nodded, "I understand."

"So what I'm going to do is put myself into your mind. I want you to find a way to push me out and block me. Do it however you can."
