NEW ORLEANS HAD BEEN A GOOD HOME to her for the week and a half she had been there.
No one knew who she was or what she was. To them, she was Madeline Harper, a college student who moved to New Orleans after a guy got her pregnant and ditched.
She was starting again, but this time she didn't have Kol to start over with her, or Caroline to talk to her. She was alone and she hated it.
She got a job at a bar in the French Quarter, named Rousseau's and she lied as low as possible. No one suspected her to be anything but the snarky bartender who didn't like people touching her ass.
"Maddie, two guys just walked in, can you take them?" Jessica asked, her hands full and Maddie nodded as the brunette bartender grabbed her bag.
"I'm off, see you ladies tomorrow." Sophie departed and Maddie waved the witch off as she walked behind the bar to see her new favourite customers.
"Marcel! Diego! Thierry! Not that I mind, but this is the fourth time you three have been in here the past three days. So what sorrows are we drowning this time?" Maddie asked the three men as she poured them three glasses of whiskey.
"No sorrows. I heard you set up the karaoke mics and thought I'd have a go if I got hammered enough." Marcel Gerard stated and Maddie smirked before gesturing to the empty stage.
"Go ahead. I feel like I made this place worse. The last guy threw up because he had stage fright, which was dumb. Why get on stage if you know you're going to have a problem? But you should do it, the lot of you. It'd give me some sort of amusement in this hellhole." Maddie encouraged and both Thierry and Diego shook their heads.
"Hell nah, man. My voice was made for the shower and the shower only." Diego denied and Maddie laughed before looking to Thierry. "Not today, sunshine." He shook his head and Maddie pouted before seeing a man raise his hand, signalling for her assistance as he held his empty beer bottle next to him.
Maddie scoffed and the three vampires rose an eyebrow at the feisty girl. "I swear these day drinkers are the dumbest yet the most posh people ever." Maddie scoffed to them before turning to the man.
"The last time I checked, we were a bar, not a fucking five star restaurant with waiters. If you want a damn drink, you come up here and ask for one." Maddie sassed and Marcel laughed before sighing and smirking at the Petrova Hybrid.
"One song. One song to make you feel better." Was all Marcel said before walking up to the stage. Maddie turned to Diego with an expectant look and the vampire shook his head.
"Oh no, I am not singing." Diego denied and Maddie gave the vampire a look of disappointment but laughed when she turned to the stage before clapping her hands as the music started.
Maddie had to admit, Marcel was good. She laughed as he sung "How you like me now" and she clapped like everyone else when he finished.
"Thank you, thank you!" Marcel finished and Maddie clapped with a large grin. "That will forever be implanted in my brain. Thank you for curing my life of boredom!" Maddie praised as she handed the man a shot before she saw a figure in the corner of her eye. A figure she knew very well.
