I snapped at the limb that attempted to slither under mine to touch the tiny napping body I was guarding. The hand retreated before I could leave another mark in it.

Bill seriously won't leave him be. The child was sleeping for christ sake.

I growled lowly, meeting his annoyed glare with my own.

"Come on Pinetree." Bill whined. "I just want to hold little William."

I rolled my eyes. He was still determined to be Pup's namesake. Newflash, I'm not letting that happen. Ever.
"Sleeping." I said, resting my head over my pup's. "Leave."

Bill's eye flashed red for a brief moment, then he took a breath. "I'm not going anywhere."

Persistent bastard.

"I heard that."

I gave a huff curling myself more around the tiny sleeping body. Soft blonde hair tickled my nose as I breathed.
Names have been on my mind since Bill started insisting to call him William Jr.

Harrison, Alexander, Malice, Kaos, Karma, Vice . . .

The names went on that I shocked myself with the list.

"Honestly, Pinetree," Bill sighed with annoyance. "What is wrong with naming him after me?"

Carefully, I lift my head to meet his eye with a glare. "Evil." The word lunged out of my mouth darkly. "Pup not evil."
I rested my head again over my son's, hearing his father give an insulted huff.

After a few moments of silence and no attempt to touch the sleeping infant, I felt a hand rub over the unbrushed curls on my hair.
I haven't had a haircut in ages, why is he petting me?!
But I gave Bill no threat seeing as he wasn't trying to disturb Pup again. It been a while since I last let him even touch me.

It was nice. Again.

Why didn't I let him near Pup? I was acting on some sort of instinct. Is it natural? For hellhounds at least?

I shifted around Pup again so I wasn't squishing him then relaxed a bit. Bill's petting was comforting, sort of. Lulling me to sleep.
