We've made an even bigger breakthrough in the case. Darren (God bless his obsessive soul) finally struck gold after all his digging through Latvian government and law enforcement archives (I don't even want to know how he got his hands on those). On 6th of October 1985, there was a bizarre case of kidnapping and double homicide in Riga. The victims were an upper middle-class couple who had been married for twelve years. They had no children of their own, but had recently adopted a child, according to the neighbors' recounts. This was a few weeks after the destruction of the orphanage I mentioned in my last update. It turns out there were a lot of "sympathy adoptions" in that period because news got out about the fire and lots of people felt for the plight of the displaced children. Almost all of these adoptions were unofficial, largely as a result of those in charge wanting to rid themselves of as many children as possible without the hassle of paperwork (which explains why Darren found no records of them earlier).

Anyway, back to the case. The man and his wife appeared to have been killed using a corrosive substance. Their bodies were deformed and partially destroyed, and there was corresponding damage to several surfaces and objects in the house, as if the killer had been careless with the substance. There was no blood on the scene, no gunshot wounds, no signs of char or anything suggestive of a fire. What made it even stranger was that there were no signs of a break in, and no valuables were stolen, leading officials to believe that the couple likely knew the perpetrators and had invited them into their home. The girl they had recently adopted was missing too, and they found her shoe at the crime scene, indicating that she may have been taken against her will. Their bereaved family members couldn't give any potential suspects, and none of the neighbors had witnessed anything that suggested that there had been a fight preceeding their time of death. The girl was never found, and there never was a ransom note. The case went cold after the investigators couldn't find any leads.

However, one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the neighbors' description of the girl, which went into the missing person reports. Her hair was described by most as "fiery red". She was estimated to have been between four and seven years old at the time of her abduction. Darren believes, beyond all reasonable doubt, that the girl was Crystal, and that the murders could have been an early (and possibly accidental) manifestation of her abilities. Further adding to his body of evidence are the immigration records which show that Dr. Albert Moses was in Latvia between November 1985 and February 1986. He arrived in the company of a small group of researchers from France, but left the country independently via the port on the Baltic Sea, headed towards Lubeck, Germany. Considering that Europe was the leading centre of paranormal research at the time (with bodies like Les Evangelius and Rosenkreutz), Darren speculates that Dr. Moses may have taken the girl (Crystal) to any of these agencies for (maybe) further testing or teaching her to control her abilities. Whether or not this is true is anyone's guess, but it seems to connect the dots better than anything we can think of.

I've been trying to reach you since Friday evening, and I don't know what's happening on your end or why your phone has been out of coverage area for the past two days. We've still not found Norman. Then again, it can't be easy to find someone who can see into the future and knows all the ways we could track him. Depending on what method of transport he's employing, he could be close to you right now. I wanted to alert you of this, but as you have been unreachable, I'm not sure you'll even get this message. Still, can't blame me for not trying.

We're still waiting on the transcript of that interview. Please get back to us as soon as you can.
