I was lying on my bed, playing games on my phone when I heard a knock on my door

"Come in,"

Zach poked his head in and gave me a sheepish grin.
It was kinda weird that he started knocking. I was used to him just barging in whenever he pleased.

"Hey Zion,"

"Sup kiddo?" I focused on my game because I was losing.

"So, how was school today?"

Huh? School?

I paused the game and put my phone down, giving my full attention to Zach who sat at the end of my bed, scratching the back of his neck.
I decided to play along and see where he was going with it.

"School was splendid, Zach. How was your day with Mrs Will?"

"Really cool! We did fun math and stuff,"

Fun math?That's blasphemy!
Math is not fun!
It should be illegal even.

"Indeed?" was all I said.

He nodded again and we fell into an awkward silence.

"Zach?"

"Hm?"

"Is there something you want?"

"How did you figure it out?"

"Call it a lucky guess,"

"I was wondering if you'd join me and play basketball,"

I cocked my head, "Is that it?"

He gave me a nervous nod

"Sure. Why not?" I hopped off the bed and pocketed my phone.

"Really?" His face lit up

"Of course dumbass! I'm not gonna baby you like Mom and Dad,"

He visibly relaxed, "Oh, I was counting on it"

I laughed and went to change my button up to a sweatshirt.

"Oh my god! Zion what happened to you?!" Zach gasped.

I looked at him in confusion and he pointed at my back.
Together, we went into my bathroom and he pointed at the reflection of my horribly bruised back in the mirror.

Of course Nerd witch's assault had left me with a trophy.

I looked at Zach whose eyes were so wide with horror, that I feared they might pop out of their sockets.

Think! Think!
Oh well, I might as well stick to the usual.

"I fell," I said flatly.

He gave me an incredulous look and crossed his arms, "Like I once said, I'm ten, not stupid"

"I slipped in the boy's locker room and fell on my back,"

His eyebrows shot up and his lips made an 'o' shape.

"C'mon, let's go play some basketball. I've got a party by eight"

I slapped his arm playfully and ran out of the bathroom while putting on the sweatshirt.
I heard him running behind me and decided to turn it into a contest.

"Last one to the court hast to 'bond' with Sydney!"

That must've been all the motivation Zach needed because his footsteps became as fast as a racehorse's.
But, I was still the most athletic and still ahead of him of course - not to sound narcissistic or anything, but, how do you think I maintain such a great body?
