On halloween when we had done the dry ice experiment.  The pressure of Carbon Dioxide would build up in the film canister with water and dry ice inside.  The same thing was happening at Lake Nyos.

At lake Nyos in West Africa, a small village called Cameroon, had mysterious deaths of 1,724 people from what seemed to be "...a dense cloud of more than a billion cubic meters of Carbon Dioxide traveled 16 valley..."  This cloud had also killed more than 3,000 cattle and many other animals in that village.  And its all just from this river that people used to swim in each day, without knowing that their village sat on top of basically a radioactive volcano that was cover by some sand dirt and water.  In the dry ice experiment basically the same thing was happening.  As we had added hot water, or even cold water the ice would melt and let out Carbon Dioxide.  But as a gas not a liquid.  Just like the lake, if it had turned into a liquid this cloud would not exist and those 1,724 people and over 3,000 cattle and animals would've lived.  And if the dry ice turned into a liquid, well then hallelujah!!! Liquid carbon Dioxide was finally invented.
