I locked myself in my bedroom, again, and started packing my small, blue nap sack. I shared the bedroom with my brother, but I'm six years older. I need privacy. They were fighting again, my mom and step dad, and you could hear it down the road. He always comes home drunk, not that that's an excuse, he's abusive when he's sober, too. Nothing too bad. Just some screaming and, occasionally, there would be some broken glass, but we try to avoid him. My brother and I hate him, but we're stuck between a rock and a hard place. He has a good paying job, and pays the bills. Something we were struggling with before he came along. I tell myself every night that I only have to deal with it a few more years, then I'm off to college, but it can't come soon enough. Then Alex comes to mind. No, we don't always get along, and we aren't very close, but I love him. I feel like I should be protecting him, he's only ten, but he knows how to take care of himself. He hides in the loft of the garage most of the time. Wish I was creative. Though we may look her similar, with our light brown hair, dull green eyes, and twig-like body structure, we couodnt be more different. He's sporty, out going, friendly, and gets outstanding grades. Ive heard many call him a poster child. I am a music-loving, "emo", hermit, who would rather stay in my room with a good book. I get average grades and im pretty sure most people im the high school think im mute.I look around my room, ensuring I want to go through with this. I've thought about it so many times, but I cant take it anymore. I crawl through the window and pull the string-the only thing keeping the broken window open. I head down the driveway, holding my hand out to touch each tree. I take a left and start my journey up the hill. It's not too bad. I've walked this same route to school for seven years, as neither of my guardians will drive me to school. I look back every few minutes, each time seeing I haven't made it very far. They probably don't even know I'm gone yet. They won't know I'm gone until after school tomorrow.      I pass Kyle's house, but decide against stopping. His mom isnt to fond of me since I came out as gay two years ago. Just a few more miles and i would be at the park. I don't know where im going, but I know that the train tracks lead somewhere out of town. I pass the old hunting blind, the haunted trails, the school, and the cemetery. But the sun is still setting. That's at least five miles. I've never been very active, so I chuckle at myself and my time. I start to get really bored, and start counting get steps and turns. One.two.three.four.five...twenty seven...fourty two...seventy nine...one hundred... left turn...shit. one.two.three.four
