a piece of heaven | thomas

Start from the beginning

You turned to him, "do you ever miss the maze?"

Newt didn't seem surprised by the question, "sometimes. I don't miss the place, but I miss the people we lost, I miss the simpler times."

You nodded, "me too."

Despite not being in the same maze, you were in the girls only maze, with the exception of Aris.

You'd met Thomas in the scorch, and from then on you ended up falling for each other and he made a promise to himself to protect you— yet he failed on his promise as you got bitten by a crank, he'd tried to save you but before you turned your body couldn't cope and you became ill, eventually dying in his arms one night.

All the times you watched him, you hadn't seen him read the letter you'd given him, but that night as you wandered the beach you saw him sat alone besides the Bon fire with your letter in his hands.

You sat besides him as he read it, tears falling down his cheeks as he did, you reached out for him but instantly pulled back, knowing he wouldn't feel your touch. It was the worst thing you'd ever experienced, wanted to reach for him and touch him one last time, but you couldn't.

Every night since the first night he read your letter, you saw him read it before he went to sleep— keeping you in his memory. And you kept your promise to watch over him, despite the fact that you couldn't do anything.

As time went on and you watched your friends develop new friendships, and Thomas fall in love with someone else, which hurt but you knew it was what he needed to do. He was happy and that was all you cared about, but one thing that didn't change was that he never stopped reading your letter.

Years passed and your friends grew old, yet yourself, Teresa (who you'd developed a beautiful friendship with, as well as with Newt) and Newt stayed the age you were when you all died.

Newt always watched over Sonya, checking that she was happy. Teresa looked over everyone, just glad that they were happy and safe. Yet the only person you cared that was safe was Thomas, over the years he'd felt a growing presence around him, and somehow... a part of him knew that you were there.

The day finally came when you had to watch the love of your life pass away peacefully. That night you were overlooking the beach, watching the waves lap against the shore, when you felt another presence behind you.

"Y/n." You heard the familiar voice of Thomas behind you.

As you turned around you saw Thomas as his younger self, "Thomas." You breathed out, an overwhelming relief rushed through your body as you finally heard him saying your name again.

"I've missed you every single day." He said, walking closer to you so that he now stood besides you, looking down at you as he towered over you.

"I've missed you too..." you replied.

"Have you been here the whole time?" He asked.

You nodded, "ever since you arrived."

A small smile flickered onto his lips, "I can't believe I'm finally seeing you again."

"Just hearing you say my name again is all I've wanted all these years." You smiled up at him, gazing into his honey-brown eyes that still stood out despite his now translucent apparition like you.

Thomas's smile widened as he reached up to stroke your cheek, finally feeling his touch again after so many years sent shivers through your body.

"Would it be wrong if I kissed you?" He asked.

You shook your head as he leaned down slowly, his lips pressing against yours— despite not being able to feel it like when you were alive, you could still feel the sensation of being kissed and it was the most amazing feeling you'd ever experienced.

When you broke apart, you heard someone clear their throat.

Newt stood in front of you both, Thomas's face lit up as he saw his best friend, "hello, old friend." Thomas said.

"Hello, mate," Newt replied, a smirk flickered on his lips before he gave in and hugged Thomas, "it's been a while."

Teresa soon showed up and the four of you were finally reunited, and when Minho passed away he completed your group.

You could all finally be at peace, living on the island of paradise, together and happy at last.
