The story follows the main protagonist, Louisa, returning from her annual fishing trip on the North Umpqua River. These trips serve mainly the purpose to reunite her, in spirit at least, with her deceased husband, Jack.

This year, Louisa brings in a prize catch, a bass that would make Jack proud. But while stepping from her boat at the landing place in Bogus Creek, Louisa suffers a stroke.

Paralysed on her left side, Louisa passes a lonely night lying on the bank.

In spite of a bleak outlook, she tries to take hold of her fate during the following days. And soon it turns out the chirping birds are not her only companions in this wilderness...

A Stroke of Luck on Bogus Creek is set in the Oregon wilderness. Catching descriptions of the nature as well as insights into Louisa's mind and past make this short story a riveting read.

Guided by the authors masterful hand we witness Louisa's struggle, her worsening condition and, finally, her unlikely rescue. Although it comes at a price...
