“Lilly! How was your day? Did you get the job?”

No sooner I took a step inside the house, than Ella’s voice filled up my hearing senses.

“It was good. And....I got the job!”

“You what?” Casually laying on the couch, Edmund suddenly looked up from his phone and he nearly dropped it. I wasn't surprised to see him at our apartment as he was our neighbour and for the fact that my sister was his girlfriend. “I mean how did you get the job? It took me months to get approved by Mr. Ambrose.”

“That's still a mystery to me. He didn't even ask me a question.”

“Did you greet him while you entered?”

“Wait a minute....Holy...Moly! I forgot!”

“That's why you got! Mr. Ambrose thinks introductions are a waste of time.”

“Yeah. He appreciate time savers like me.” I stated proudly.

“But weren't you late because you forgot your resume?” Ella poked her head in our conversation.

“I was. But then I used the lift. Honestly, I wasn't expecting a lift to be there. It saved a lot of time. He values time more than money.”

“You did what?” Edmund’s eyes were the size of saucers. “You used the lift! That was only for the employer! Only he can use it!”

I rolled my eyes.

“Oh how very fascinating! If he made that, why wouldn't he just let his workers use it?”

“Because it saves electricity.”

“Still doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't he let the other people use it if it'd save their own time?”

“Because he expects 100% work from his employees.”

“By making them work like machines? Come on, Edmund!”

“What Lilly, so you're gonna use the lift regardless, aren't you?”

“Of course! I'm not crazy enough to climb all the way to the last floor! And I'm among the few who have their offices at the floor. Don't be silly Eddie.”

“You'll know what silly is Lilly, because you don't know him."

“Oh yeah? Or you're just too fucking scared of him. Which I tell you, I'm not.”

Saying that I walked into my room to freshen up and to give the couple privacy (as I was not in a mood to talk to them.)

The days eventually passed with me pondering about my new job, with me just chilling and casually wasting time, enjoying my freedom and before I knew, it was Monday.

I took a deep breath before I knocked twice on the door. Getting the cold response of my frigid employer, I pushed the door swiftly.

“Good Morning, Mr. Ambrose.”

I purposely greeted him to annoy him as had warned Edmund me not to. Honestly, I had never seen a different expression on his face other than the typical grim one. I wouldn't be surprised if he confessed that he worked with the Avengers and was one of them who had the superpower to freeze people to death.

He didn't look up from his file but his head moved infinitesimally. I took that as a nod.

I place myself on the chair in front of him and waited for a him to give me orders - or rather to pay attention to me - looking out of the window the great London city, when finally his eyes met mine.
