Chapter 14 - Conjugating Adjectives

Finally, we're here! But before that, you need to get to know a few adjectives.

Here is a list of some useful adjectives you can use in daily conversations:

Ang mga adjectives na ito ay wala pang tense o ang tinatawag natin na root words. Kumbaga hindi pa natin alam kung present tense siya or past etc. pero kung as written language siya, ang root word in itself ay pwedeng maging present tense.

행복하다 - happy

화나다 - angry

슬프다 - sad

아프다 - painful/sick

피곤하다 - tired

배고프다 - hungry

졸리다 - sleepy

짜증나다 - annoying

심심하다 - boring

차갑다 - cold

뜨겁다 - hot

따뜻하다 - warm

빠르다 - fast

느리다 - slow

싸다 - cheap

비싸다 - expensive

괜찮다 - okay, alright, fine

아름답다 - beautiful

이쁘다/예쁘다 - pretty

굉장하다 - wonderful

어렵다 - difficult

쉽다 - easy

좋다 - good, nice

미안하다 - sorry

Nagtataka ba kayo kung bakit hindi ko sinali yung adjectives sa "to be" form?
Kasi diba ginagamitan pa rin ng is/am/are ang adjectives? Kung sa Tagalog pa, ito ay "ay"

I am pretty. - Ako ay maganda.
She is good. - Siya ay mabait.

The difficult thing in Korean is that adjectives are also conjugated. Meaning, meron siyang past tense, present and future.
Kung sa english pa, we say, "you are pretty" kung sa past tense, we say, "you were pretty" which means yung "to be" form ang kino-conjugate.

Pero sa Korean, ang adjective mismo ang kino-conjugate. Ang "You were pretty" sa Korean ay parang nagiging "you prettied"

Ngayon, iintroduce ko na ang conjugation rules. Magsimula muna tayo sa formal speech dahil madali lang ito.

For present tense:

-습니다 ending kapag consonant ang last letter
-ㅂ니다 ending naman kapag vowel

Ex:

좋다 -> 좋습니다
저는 고양이가 좋습니다 = I like the cat.

*좋다 ay isang adjective which means "good/fine"

ang 좋아하다 ang verb na may meaning na "to like"

이쁘다 -> 이쁩니다
저는 이쁩니다.

For past tense:
-았/었 습니다 ending. Yung 았/었 na part, ito na yung sa kanya kanyang adjective. Mas maiintindihan niyo ito sa mga explanation ko sa ibaba.
