Chapter Thirty Five

After Raniel's wedding, Raffy took the courage to talk to his Dad regarding the reason of his return at home. He wants the conversation to be over and done with and immediately board in the luxury ship to start his countdown on when Athena and he will be together again.

"Do you need anything son?" Mario asked upon seeing Raffy enters the study room

"There is something I would like to discuss with you. Are you free for a talk Dad?" Raffy asked

"Of course son, what about it?" Mario asked

"I am accepting your offer for me to manage the luxury ship Dad, but not only for period of time" Raffy straighly said

"Only until Athena finishes her school and settles here in Manila?" Mario asked

"How did you know about Athena, did Mom told you about her?" Raffy asked

"You know that she cannot lie to me. Wag kang magalit sa kanya, pinilit ko syang sabihin sa akin yung reason why are you staying in Germany" Mario said

"All along you knew that I stayed in Germany?" Raffy asked

"Of course, you change your number son but your Mom did not and may I remind you, I am the one paying your Mom's telephone bill so when it shoots up, I got curious and check on the numbers she has been calling and most of it are oversees call to Germany" Mario said

"How did Mom reveal all of this? What did you do?" Raffy asked

"I told her to be honest with me, because if I am not satisfied with the reason of her calls to Germany, I would think that she's cheating on me. Of course I know that she is not, but I have to do that to make sure that she will tell the truth" Mario explained

Raffy just blew a sigh as he knows that there is no more reason for him to hide from his Dad his relationship with Athena. "I guess there is no point of hiding my relationship with Athena, alam mo na eh, alangan naman i-deny ko pa" Raffy said

"So she is the reason why you insisted on docking to London, since that is the shortest way to Germany" Mario said.

"Yes Dad" Raffy softly replied

"Sana sinabi mo na lang ang tutoo para hindi na tayo nagtalo. I know you are not telling me the truth that's whyI got mad and I insisted not to dock in London that time. Lagi na lang si Mommy mo ang nakakaalam ng tutoo. Maiintindihan ko naman eh, only if you tell the truth" Mario said

"I'm sorry Dad" Raffy apologized

"Baka ipinahatid pa kita sa Germany using your Uncle Rob's private plane" he added smiling

"Naku not to that point naman po Dad, nakakahiya naman pong istorbohin si Uncle Rob" Raffy replied

Mario just smiles at him then eventually asked "Now tell me honestly, why did you change your mind about managing the luxury ship, you were very much against it when I offered it to you"

"Mom told me to at least give it a try at least until Athena finishes College" Raffy said

"Kaya mong malayo kay Athena nang ganung katagal?" Mario asked

"Athena and I agreed na kailangang kayanin namin Dad" Raffy replied

"Sana naging honest ka na lang sa akin before Raphael. All the while I thought you took up HRM because you are interest with the luxury ship business. So I get too disappointed and confused when you decline my offer to you" Mario said

"I took HRM because I wanted to understand the business. I want to understand why you and Mom are always not around while my brothers and I grows up." Raffy explained. "Naiintindihan ko na po Dad why you and Mom need not be our side while we grew up. I'm sorry for the disappointments that I gave you but managing our business is not my cup of tea" he added

"I did not know that you feel that way son, all the while I thought this is what you really wants. You graduated with the highest honor in your batch so who would have thought that you feel otherwise. Had I known about your feelings on this, I could have sold the luxury ship to your Uncle Rob. The resorts are doing well anyway so I'm sure hindi naman tayo magugutom kung ibebenta natin yun and maybe invest on an institute where you could enjoy working in" Mario explained

"But the luxury ship is your dream business Dad" Raffy said

"Yes having a luxury ship is one in my bucket list but the happiness of my children is the first one in that list" Mario said

"I'm sorry that I judge you Dad, I promise to be more open to you from now on" Raffy again apologizes

"I'm happy to hear that, I can keep a secret too son, mas magaling akong magtago ng secret kesa sa Mommy mo" Mario said which makes Raffy smiles

"Thanks Dad" he replied

"Here is the deal son, I'll try to ask your Uncle Rob if he is still interested in buying the luxury ship. If he still is, then well and good we will sell it to him and you could start with the career that you really wanted. If not, I guess we have to look for another buyer and that would mean an extra time for you to stay onboard and manage the business" Mario said

"Then it's a deal Dad" Raffy smile and offered his hand for a hand shake. His Dad smiles at him in return but pulls his hand for a tight hug.

"I will miss you son" Mario said while he still hugs him and gently tapping his back

"Me too Dad and thank you for understanding" Raffy replied as he hugs his Dad tighter

"Akala ko si Charmaine ang magiging daughter in-law ko, si Athena pala. But no problem, the Reyes' siblings are definitely a good catch" Mario said

"You can say that again Dad" Raffy replied

"And I'm glad you postponed the wedding son, that is the best thing to do, marami pa kayong pwedeng gawin. Saka na muna ang pag-aasawa" Mario said

"Pati yung wedding sinabi na rin ni Mommy sa yo?" Raffy asked and his Dad just taps his right shoulder "Don't worry son, I'm good in keeping secrets" Mario said before he leaves the study room.
