A/N: I've altered some of the ages here so its not so icky

When Gerard was seventeen, Frank was sixteen.

Gerard and Frank were the outcasts of their school.

Frank was currently in the ninth grade, Gerard in the tenth.

They were still the best of friends, but unbeknownst to either one of them, secretly crushing on the other.

It was completely obvious to anyone who saw them together; how close to each other's sides they stayed, how they laughed together, and more simply how they looked at the other.

Things weren't quite the same as when they were children, but they didn't mind. Since they were both in high school there were busier and had less time to spare. Yet, even though the boys didn't get as much time together, it made their shared time even more special to them.

"Hey, Frankie!" Gerard smiled happily at his best friend who had just entered his room in the basement.

"Hey, Gee, what's up?" Frank said as he plopped down on Gerard's bed.

Gerard was curled in the corner of his bed, leaning against the wall with a sketchbook in his hands. He turned so his younger and shorter friend could see his latest drawing.

"Holy shit, Gee this is amazing!" Frank exclaimed, his eyes wide and jaw open.

On the paper was a perfectly drawn picture of Pansy, Frank's new guitar. Every detail was shown, ranging from the patterns in the wood to the wire of the strings. But no, it wasn't just Pansy. It was Frank playing Pansy, his fingers curled around her neck and her base seated in his lap as he looked down at her.

A light blush formed on Gerard's face and he shrugged gently, pushing off Frank's compliment.

"It's not that great Frank. You're just saying that because I'm your friend."

Gerard was extremely self-conscious about his artwork. Most everyone else knew he was good, great even, but he didn't believe in himself. Once he'd made it to high school, all of the people who held the opinion that art was stupid, made sure he felt bad about what he did. Because of that unfortunate affair, he was extremely critical of every piece he created.

Gerard's response to Frank infuriated the younger boy. In Frank's mind, Gerard was the best thing to ever walk the earth, and all of his creations were masterpieces.

He suddenly moved across the bed so their faces were just inches apart.

"Don't you say that!" Frank yelled, "You have true talent Gerard, and you'd better know that I'm your friend for more than your art skills!" He was absolutely livid. For only being a sixteen-year-old, Frank was much closer to the maturity of his friend, despite his current rage.

Gerard, on the other hand, was speechless. Part of him was slightly ashamed he'd actually thought Frank would lie to him out of sympathy. The other part was silent due to the fact his crush was so close. It felt like he couldn't breathe. He wanted nothing more to close the space between him and Frank, but he knew he couldn't pull anything of the sort.

It made him feel almost disgusted with himself to have such a strong crush on the boy he'd grown up with. Frank probably saw him as the brother he never had, while Gerard was dreaming about the young boy constantly.

"Sorry Frank.. I-I just-" He stuttered.

Frank then lunged forward and wrapped his arms around him.

"Shh, Gerard. I understand. Just- don't say that stuff again. You're my best friend, and I don't want you doubting me." He mumbled against Gerard's shoulder.
