When I started writing Cory's backstory, I realized that we don't have currency yet!
So naturally, like any writer would, I started furiously searching for common metals (because who has enough gold to create a common currency for an entire country?) and ways of making a currency system for a fantasy world.
I don't have the time or skills to make drawings of coins, so assume they have shapes on them that define them (because some of them are made of pretty similar looking metals). My baby universe is growing up so fast!
Tranek Currency:
10,000 chromium=1,000 aluminum=100 stellite=10 brass=1 titanium
1 chromium= 10 cents
Nickname- chrome
1 aluminum= 1 dollar
Nickname- alum
1 stellite= 10 dollars
Nickname- stell
1 brass= 100 dollars
No nickname necessary
1 titanium= 1000 dollars
No nickname- most dealings with titaniums are professional, and therefore slang terms for them are unnecessary.
An example of the nicknames:
He ran from the bank, the brass, two stell, five alum, and nine chrome he had taken bulging out of his pocket.
Note: real coins have a certain chemical added to them so that they will appear a fluorescent green when put in something acidic, such as vinegar or lemon juice, so that it is nearly impossible to counterfeit. This chemical is made in one minting factory in each of the united countries, so there are no ways around it.
This will be important in the future, so you can use this as a reference point!
