Zane didn't look where he was going as he played his 3DS, which currently had his favorite game inserted; My Little Horsies Witchcraft or Magicks: Pinkie Cake's Surprise Party.

He let out a yelp when he suddenly fell backwards, but he also heard another voice.

He looked at the person he had bumped into. They were fairly tanned, much better compared to the milky pale skin of Zane. His hair was black, much like Zane's, but was much more silky looking.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going." They apologized, standing up and offering Zane their hand.

"No, it's my fault." Zane sighed, taking their hand and allowing them to pull him up.

"Heh... anyway, my name's Gene Hajime Charleston." They introduced themselves, not presenting any type of title. "You?"

"I'm Zane Chiaki Ro'Meave." He introduced, adding his title. "Super duper highschool level gamer, or just Ultimate Gamer."

"Oh, you are an officially scouted student?" Gene asked, blinking a bit. "You're lucky then... I'm part of the Reserve Course.."

"I've heard of that department." He nodded, before looking back to his screen, taking off.

"Hey, let me take you to class!!" Gene shouted, running after Zane.

~~~
Zane remembered his first encounter with Gene as he dragged his bleeding, wounded, and numbing body to the wooden door that read GOAL in big yellow painted letters.
He grabbed onto the handle of the door, before pushing it open. At first, there was just white light, with all of his classmates waiting for him....
Then.... a hallway.... and needle sharp spears flying straight at him.
Zane screamed out in pain as the spears pierced his body, already having a needle stab him straight through the foot, and a saw hit him in the forehead.
He fell to the ground as the spears fell from his body, taking a few of his last breaths. He hadn't known that his classmates were watching, falling into an endless despair that would throw the world off course.
He kept his eyes open as a figure approached him. They had silky black hair, fairly tanned skin, and blood red eyes.
"G-Gene...." Zane stuttered, struggling to speak as he could feel the blood filling his throat.
Gene didn't say anything, which led Zane to continue, reaching up for his classmate.
"There are so.... m-many.... things I.... haven't.... done yet.... I just... w-wanted to... play video games.... with you one.... last time...." Zane continued, his arm dropping to the floor.
"I don't really do video games anymore." Gene replied, unblinking and unemotional.
"I-I.. don't.... give in to despair.... don't help.... Ein get what he.... wants..." He pleaded, barely able to keep his eye open.
"Why should the world have hope? It's boring for a happy ending.." He growled, huffing a bit. "Ein gave me this purpose. A reason to put my talent to the test. He gave me talent. He made me someone. I am now worthy of being your classmate, Zane."
"You just needed.... to be you..... you never... needed a talent... to be my classmate... I would always... accept you.... being yourself is what.... truly.... matters in this.... world..... if you.... d-don't be y-yourself.... who's to s-say that s-something is...." Zane began, but felt himself become lightheaded. "I love you, Gene Hajime Charleston..... don't become someone else.... for someone else..."
With that, Zane's head hit the floor, his eye closing.... forever...
Gene stayed put for a moment, before kneeling down. He picked up the pixilated Space Invaders spaceship sprite pin off the floor, some of Zane's blood getting on his fingers in the process. Zane had always worn this pin on his uniform to show his passionate love towards Space Invaders, and now it would be the only thing that Gene could keep of his class representative.
Gene felt his face, before he realized that tears were streaming down his face. Why was he crying?
"Gene!!" Ein called out, running down the hallway.
"Yes, Ein?" Gene asked, standing up and slipping the pin into his pocket.
"I just came up with the best idea ever!! We should make the entire school kill each other off!!!" He shouted, his Werewolf ears twitching as his tail wagged excitedly.
"Sure thing, Ein..." He sighed, before looking back to Zane's lifeless body.
"I'll see you soon!!!" He laughed insanely, before running off.
Gene started to shake furiously, falling to his knees as he tried to hold Zane's body close, but out was no use. He heard a door open, and the approaching footsteps of his fellow classmates who were still alive.
"I'm sorry Zane....." Gene sobbed, his tears falling onto Zane's body.
Gene took out the Space Invaders pin, and put it on the shirt of his uniform, before standing up.
He hadn't joined Ultimate Despair for the purpose of despair, but because he was bored. He had been locked up inside of Hope's Peak Academy for so long, that he began to forget.
And now, he was paying for it. He was why Zane got executed by Ein.
Zane Chiaki Ro'Meave, the classmate he had grown to love, the one who made him see reality, was dead.
But they would meet again.
