~Sera~
I woke up the next day in the hospital. I had to stay here an extra day because of the concussion while Yugi was leaving today. Lucky midget. My brothers would be coming to visit later, thank god. I heard the door open and saw Yugi all ready to go. I pouted.
"What? Came to rub it in that you get to leave this mean place?" I asked. He laughed a little as he sat on my bed.
"No, I just came to see how you were doing. You had it worse than I did. Are you okay?" Yugi asked worried. I smiled at him.
"Yeah, I'm feeling better. How about you and Yami?" I asked.
"Yeah, we're fine. Speaking of Yami, he wants to see you too," he told me. He then switched to Yami who looked at me with worry. He looked at my wrist, it's a small fracture, and my bandaged head. He touched the bandage frowning.
"This is all my fault," I heard him whisper. I grabbed his hand.
"No, it's not. I chose to show up there and I chose to stay," I said.
"But whoever was after my Puzzle is the reason you got hurt. I am the one who got you into this," he told me. I shook my head a little.
"Yami, that guy also wanted my Millennium Crystal. He would have hurt me anyway," I said. I then reached my uninjured hand up and cupped his cheek. "Don't blame yourself...it hurts me just to see you this sad," I said softly. He leaned into my palm. His hand came up holding it there before he kissed my palm. I blushed a little. He was still sad though.
"Sera, I nearly lost you twice already...a third time would just..." he trailed off. I started rubbing my thumb gently against his cheek.
"If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that no matter what, nothing will take me away. I'm too stubborn," I smiled at him. He smiled a little back. I looked into his purple eyes as his looked into my blue ones. We started leaning in until our lips touched. I felt those fireworks and explosions that I've read in my romance novels. The way they described it though...it was nothing compared to what I'm feeling right now. My arms wrapped around Yami's neck as his came around my waist. We pulled back a little out of breath as we placed our foreheads together. Both of us were wearing a smile.
"I knew it," I heard him say.
"Knew what, Yami?" I asked him.
"You're the one," he answered before kissing my forehead. I smiled again. Yami is the one for me. Four more days passed, I was out of the hospital just taking it easy at home for a little bit. Yugi would let Yami switch with him so he could walk me home from school. Now today, we were going to meet up, but he didn't know. It was Yugi's idea for us to meet up today, it was also a surprise for Yami. I went to the station at ten o'clock like he told me. I made it there and saw Yugi who was wearing a black sleeveless shirt, black pants, black boots, a blue belt, and a black arm band as well as gold and silver bracelets. I then saw Yami take over and he looked at his puzzle. "Hey! Yugi...I'm not...you can't...this isn't a duel!" Yami yelled as his puzzle. I giggled which made him look over at me. He blushed embarrassed and stood up straighter. "Hello," he greeted making giggle again.
"He didn't tell you what we're doing, huh?" I asked him. He shook his head.
"He said it's a surprise," he told me. I smiled.
"Well, we're going to your surprise a little later!" I grabbed his hand and led him.
"Can't you just tell me?" He asked hoping.
"Nope! Yami, just trust me on this. You'll like it," I kissed his cheek making him smile.
"Alright. I'll wait," he told me weaving our fingers together. I smirked.
"And this is what modern people today call whipped," I joked. He was confused until I saw a playful glare. Yugi must have told him. Hehe. I then looked at his outfit again. "You know, you look good out of that school uniform," I smirked. He smirked back.
"I have to say the same about you. You look beautiful," he smiled wrapping his arm around my shoulders as I blushed. I was a cream dress with a black belt that had a small bow, a jean vest jacket, tan boots, and pink and gold bracelets. I mean, it's a date, I wanted to look good for him. Oh, and let's not forget the Millennium Crystal and my locket. I smiled and kissed his cheek. I started leading him to a café.
"Come with me, handsome. Yugi called early and saw he hadn't eaten. I told him I wanted to take you out for a late breakfast. Oh, and this is not your surprise," I told him as I led him inside.
~Yami~
As of right now, Sera was leading me to a café to get some breakfast for us both. I'll admit I was confused about why Yugi didn't eat anything this morning, now I know.
'She wants to make you feel like a normal guy. Usually it's the guy that pays for the food, but she insisted. She's so stubborn,' Yugi thought to me. I smiled at Sera. She is the most stubborn woman I know, but I like that about her. The fact that she's doing all of this just for me...its heartwarming. We took a seat at a table by the windows. She handed me a card. 'It's a menu, pick out what you want,' Yugi told me. I looked it over and saw a brown creamy beverage.
'What is that?' I asked Yugi.
'That's a chocolate milkshake...you never had one?!' Yugi asked surprised.
'In case you haven't noticed, I'm a spirit that's been living in a puzzle god knows for how long,' I thought back.
'Oh, right. Sorry! The milkshake like ice-cream. Cold, sweet, and delicious!' Yugi told me. I smiled at Sera.
"Well, I've chosen mine. What would you like?" She asked me.
"I'll take a chocolate milkshake, please," I told her. She nodded and went to order. She soon came back with my milkshake and a white version of it.
'She got vanilla. There's a hint for you, she likes vanilla! Most girls prefer chocolate or strawberry, but Sera's different,' Yugi advised. Vanilla that explains why she smells like the sweet smell. Sera sat mine down and took her seat. She started sipping hers and I followed. It was pretty good!
"How do you like it?" Sera asked.
"It tastes amazing. Thanks," I smiled at her. She smiled back.
"Yami, there's an Egyptian Exhibit opening close by in a little while. Yugi and I thought you might want to go. We could help you find out about your past," she told me. I frowned a little and she noticed. "We could do something else if you want. We don't have to go," she said placing her hand on mine. I sighed a little.
"Please, you must forgive me, Sera. Lately, I feel like a stranger to myself. There are so many details about who I am and where I come from I can't seem to remember," I told her.
"Well, maybe we could start with things that you do remember," she suggested.
"I know that my origins lie in Ancient Egypt and that I now reside within the Millennium Puzzle. That's about all. When Yugi first put the Puzzle together and our bond began, it was as if my spirit was reborn," I told her.
"What do you mean reborn?" She asked me.
"Since that day, I've felt that I'm here for a reason. That destiny has brought me to Yugi to accomplish something of great importance. After the Puzzle was almost taken away from us, that feeling began to grow stronger. Maybe the key to understanding what lies here within my past," I said to her. She smiled a little.
"I know how that feels. I went through the same thing before my trip to Egypt. Well, not exactly the same thing, but I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life or my future," she told me.
"I see."
"So, I told myself, I'll just listen to my heart and see where it takes me," she smiled. I smiled back.
"That's great, Sera. I always tell Yugi to follow his heart," I told her. She nodded.
"Now that I know what I want to do, I can work for it. What I'm trying to say is don't think of the unknown as your enemy, see it as an adventure," she advised. I couldn't help but smile at her logic. It made a lot of sense. I nodded at her. "So, how about it? Wanna go see what the world has in store for us today?" She asked.
"Sure, why not," I agreed. After a little bit, we finished and walked out. She started showing me some places around. We went to the park first. I had asked her about her past. She had it hard, her mother and father died in a car crash when she was ten. For two years she was at an orphanage taking care of Mokuba with her brother Kaiba. Then her step father came to adopt her twin. Kaiba said he wouldn't go with the man unless Sera and Mokuba were with him. Gozaburo was the man's name. He used to beat Kaiba and Sera if they did anything wrong. He then tried to force Sera into an arranged marriage. A few years later, Gozaburo died practically setting the siblings free. Last year, Sera went to Egypt so she can become an archaeologist. She's fascinated with Egypt and its history. Her favorite subject was the Pharaoh and his Queen. We left the park and walked around. I then saw something making her stop. "Look, Sera, players can trade their Duel Monster cards here," I told her. She smiled.
"Today must be your lucky day. Let's go in and check it out," she told me. I nodded and we walked into the store. Looking through the cards, I couldn't help but feel a little a jolt of happiness. I looked at some cards.
"These cards both look very powerful," I said to myself. I picked out some cards to trade and we left. "Ah, Light Force Sword. It's an excellent trap card and a wise trade," I mused. Sera giggled.
"Excited are we?" She asked.
"I guess you could say that, yes," I agreed. She looked over and smiled.
"An arcade!" I heard her say.
"An arcade?" I asked confused. She giggled a little.
"It's where you can play games, it's fun. You never know, you might be the champ of something else," she winked. I smiled and we walked in. "I haven't been to an arcade in a couple of years. Last time I came here was with Seto and Mokuba," she said. Now that's shocking.
"Kaiba used to come here? I didn't think he would be into something like this," I said. She shrugged a little
"Now he wouldn't, but when we were kids, he was a little more free spirited. Also, our parents used to bring us here all the time," she added. I could hear the little sadness she had in her voice. We then saw some guy moving around. He had dreadlocks, dark skin, wearing a red shirt and black pants.
"Who wants the honor of being Johnny Steps next victim?" The man asked.
"Some kind of dueling dance game?" I asked. Sera nodded.
"Yeah, they can be pretty fun," she answered. The man pointed to her.
"You, in the blue vest, you feel lucky today?" Steps asked her. I looked at Sera.
"Why don't we just ignore him and go someplace else?" I asked her. She nodded.
"Yeah, you're right. Sorry, I don't dance," Sera politely declined.
"What's the matter, chicken? Scared I'm gonna beat you?" Steps provoked. She stopped and looked at him.
"No, I just don't dance," she told him crossing her arms.
"Then why don't we do something else? Afraid of a little competition?" He asked her. She smirked...uh oh.
"I'm not afraid. Can you sing?" She asked him.
"Johnny Steps can sing," he told her.
"Then follow me, Steps. Your about to have your ass handed to you," she led him over to a game. I grabbed her hand.
"Are you sure about this, Sera?" I asked her. She winked.
"I got this. Trust me," she stepped up to the game. Others were cheering for Steps.
"Hey, why don't you back off now and save yourself the embarrassment?" He smirked at her. She smirked back.
"You're the one who's going to be embarrassed. After you," she said to him. He sang the song he pick and everyone was clapping. He wasn't bad, but I have a feeling it's about to get better.
"Alright, girlie, pick a song," he told her. She nodded and picked her song. It was Chemicals React by Aly and AJ.
"Alright, I chose a special song for a certain somebody," Sera winked at me. She then started singing. "You make me feel out of my element. Like I'm walkin' on broken glass
Like my worlds spinnin' in slow motion
And you're movin' too fast

Were you right, was I wrong
Were you weak, was I strong?
Yeah, both of us broken
Caught in the moment
We lived and we loved
And we hurt and we joked, yeah

But the planets all aligned
When you looked into my eyes
And just like that
The chemicals react
The chemicals react

You make me feel out of my element
Like I'm drifting out to the sea
Like the tides pullin' me in deeper
Makin' it harder to breathe

We cannot deny, how we feel inside
We cannot deny

Were you right, was I wrong
Were you weak, was I strong?
Yeah, both of us broken
Caught in the moment
We lived and we loved
And we hurt and we joked, yeah

But the planets all aligned
When you looked into my eyes
And just like that
The chemicals react
The chemicals react

Kaleidoscope of colors
Turning hopes on fire, sun is burning
Shining down on both of us
Don't let us lose it
Don't let us lose it

Were you right, was I wrong
Were you weak, was I strong?
Yeah, both of us broken
Caught in the moment
We lived and we loved
And we hurt and we joked, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)

We lived
We loved
We hurt
We joked

We're right
We're wrong
We're weak
We're strong
We lived to love

But the planets all aligned
When you looked into my eyes
And just like that
Watch the chemicals react
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
And just like that
The chemicals react
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
The chemicals react,"
she sang. I couldn't help but blush. Her voice was amazing and she was singing to me. I felt mesmerized hearing her sing. Everyone cheered for her, more than they did for Steps. The game even said she did better. She hit every note perfectly. Steps wasn't taking it too well though. She got off the stage and hugged me making us both laugh as I hugged her back.
"You were amazing! You have such a beautiful voice," I told her. She pulled back blushing, but smiling.
"Thank you. Ready to go?" She asked me. I nodded and we left. We made it over to a pier where we watched the sunset. I was behind her with my arms around her waist. Her arms were on mine as she had her head on my shoulder smiling. "That was really run. I haven't sung like that in so long. Did you see the look on Johnny's face? Hopefully being beat by a girl like that will shut him up for a while," she giggled. I couldn't help but smile.
"You were wonderful today. You know, Sera, I've been thinking about what you said earlier," I told her.
"Which bit?" She asked.
"You said you were unsure about your life before you went to Egypt. And that when in doubt, you follow your heart, and my heart is now telling me I must uncover the secrets of my origin, no matter where the search may lead me," I told her. She smiled at me.
"You're really determined to find out about your past, huh?" She asked.
"More than you know, Sera," I said resting my chin on her shoulder.
"Then I'm really glad my advice could help you. Just so you know, while you're out there searching for answers, your friends will be right there by your side, searching with you. I'll be there every step of the way," she told me. I smiled and kissed her temple.
"Thank you, Sera," I told her. I looked at her beautiful cobalt blue eyes. Sure they're the same color as her brothers, but hers hold kindness, warmth, and innocence. They were as I said, beautiful. We both leaned in and our lips met. The wonderful feeling I get from the kiss came back like it did when I saw her at the hospital.
"BOO!" We heard making us jump apart. We turned and saw Steps. "Do you two geeks mind if I step in?" He asked. As a matter of fact!
"Now what do you want from us?" Sera asked irritated.
"I've come down here to ask you for a second chance," Steps told her.
"A second chance? You want your ass kicked again?" She crossed her arms. I'm still not used to her cussing or swearing. Different era I guess.
"I'd have easily won if my throat wasn't a little sore. I think you owe me a rematch," he told her.
"Give it a rest, Johnny," Sera sighed. I stepped up.
"I'll give you a rematch if you battle my way," I told him.
"Yami..."
"Stay out of this porcupine head! This battle is just between me and the girl!" Steps said to me. I looked at Sera with a smile.
"Sera, may I finish off your opponent?" I asked her. She smiled back at me.
"Show him what you've got," she told me.
"Good! I'm not afraid of either of you! Name your game, you little freak!" Steps looked at me. I saw Sera's uninjured fists clench and I grabbed it making her relax.
"The game is Duel Monsters and if you lose, you're never to bother Sera again," I told him.
"Fine, only if I win, the girl will have to go on a date with Johnny Steps," Steps said to me. Sera groaned.
"Doesn't he see that you're my boyfriend?" She asked. I smiled at her. She knows I'll win, but still, first Duke and now Steps.
~Sera~
I led the two boys to Kaiba land and requested an arena. Steps was surprised to learn I was a Kaiba, but it made him more determined to win...sadly. Yami on the other hand, he was determined to win so he can teach Steps a lesson and so I can be left alone. The boys went to the platforms and I hung in the sidelines.
"Challenging Johnny Steps to a duel was a huge mistake! You two losers have no idea who you're dealing with!" Steps said.
"You're the one who's going to lose!" Yami called out.
"Listen up, punk, Johnny doesn't lose. Hey, you may think you beat me today, Sera, but that was only cause of a freak accident!" Steps told me. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, you keep telling yourself that," I told him.
"Sera defeated you fair and square!" Yami told him.
"Believe what you wanna believe, tough guy," Steps said.
"Alright, it's about time you learned your lesson, Steps," Yami said.
"Let's duel!" the battle begun.
(Steps-2000, Yami-2000)
"Why don't I start off this show? Sonic Maid in attack mode! Sonic Maid's going to clean your clock!" Steps told him.
"Or so you say. I summoned Celtic Guardian!" Yami played his card. I wasn't really surprised since he usually started out with this monster. "Attack! Destroy Sonic Maid with Steel Sword!" Yami ordered. Sonic Maid was defeated then.
(Steps-1800, Yami-2000)
"It looks like you just got lucky, dude, but I wouldn't let it go to your spiky head. This duel just started. I'll made and even bigger splash when I play Water Harmonics in attack mode," Steps played his card. She was as strong as Celtic Guardian.
"That card? Just was is Johnny up to?" Yami asked.
"What? Is something wrong?" I asked him.
"It's strange. Every duelist knows that a strong deck needs cards that support each other, but Johnny's monsters seem to be all over the place," Yami told me. I nodded looking at Johnny. What is he up too? "If you think you can win by throwing random monsters against me, you're sadly mistaken," Yami said to Steps.
"Oh, I'm quaking in my boots. Maybe your puny brain can't figure out my plan, if you've even got a brain," Steps provoked. I glared at him as my fist clenched. If he doesn't stop talking to Yami like that then we'll have a problem.
"Talk all you want. We'll see who wins in the end," Yami drew his card. "I choose to end my turn without playing a card," Yami said. Steps drew.
"Spirit of the Harp in defense mode along with a magic card, Chorus of Sanctuary. My little cheerer friend raises the defense power of my Spirit of the Harp by 500 points and that's music to my ears," Steps said. I'll admit, that was a good move, but not good enough. Sure, having the Spirit of the Harp in defense mode Yami wouldn't be able to defeat her now. Steps still made one mistake though and it's gonna cost him. I know Yami will have a trick up his sleeve and win this.
"Ready, Johnny Steps? Because it's about time you faced the music. I summon Curse of Dragon in attack mode. Incinerate Water Harmonics with your Dragon Flame!" Yami ordered. Water Harmonics was destroyed.
(Steps-1200. Yami-2000)
"Oh, I just messed up! I forgot to switch her into defense mode!" Steps said.
"Johnny doesn't even know who he's up against...he should really do his homework," I said to myself.
"So far you're hitting all the wrong notes," Yami told him.
"Don't worry, I'm just tuning up for the grand finale. But first, a surprise guest, Witch of the Black Forest in defense mode!" Steps summoned. What he trying to do now? "But there's more to come, duel fans. I activate my Polymerization card fusing Witch of the Black Forest and Lady of Faith together to create a whole new rock 'n rollin' entity better known as the Musician King! How about playing a little lullaby for your Celtic Guardian?" Steps said. His monster destroyed Celtic Guardian!
(Steps-1200, Yami-1650)
"No, my Celtic Guardian!" Yami gasped. Steps just laughed.
"I guess your Celtic Guardian wasn't a fan of the electric guitar. I promise the music will be much more romantic on our date, Sera," Steps told me. I felt like I was going to be sick.
'Yami...save me!' I told him.
'Don't worry, I'll defeat him,' Yami told me. I smiled at him.
"I'll just place this card face down on the field ending my turn. Make your move!" Steps said.
"Curse of Dragon, fire your flame and silence the Musician King!" Yami ordered. Steps laughed.
"You fell into my trap! I totally played ya!"
"A trap?" Yami and I asked.
"Time to crank up the volume with Metalmorph which transforms Musician King into the punk rockin' Heavy Metal King! His attack and defense points climb to the top of the charts! Play the dragon a couple of rips!" Steps ordered. Curse of Dragon was gone.
(Steps-1200, Yami-1600)
"How pathetic! Looks like you're nothing but a one hit wonder!" Steps pointed. I looked at Yami. You can do this, Yami! I know you can!
"Giant Soldier of Stone in defense mode!" Yami summoned.
"You can't really expect that boulder to just stop my Heavy Metal King, especially not with Metalmorph. It increases his power with every attack! I think this next song is going to be just a tremendous smash! And kick it!" Steps told his monster. Yami's monster was destroyed, but at least he didn't lose any life points. "Why don't you give up already, loser? None of your monsters can jam with my Heavy Metal King."
'Yami, you can do this! You're close to winning, I can feel it,' I told him confidently. Yami sent me a small smile.
"I call forth Dark Magician! Attack Heavy Metal King" Yami ordered.
"The fun just never ends! With Metalmorph's effect Heavy Metal King's attack strength is greater than Dark Magician!" Steps told him. I smirked.
"Johnny, you're ability to miscalculate is uncanny," Yami said.
"Say what?"
"Your overconfidence renders you blind! Dark Magic attack!" Yami ordered. Heavy Metal King was defeated. "Your Heavy Metal King has been shattered," Yami told him.
"Impossible! 'Cause Metalmorph raises Heavy Metal King's attack power!" Step said shocked. I chuckled.
"You're almost correct, Johnny, but you left one rule out. Its true Metalmorph raises your monsters attack strength, but only when your monsters are attacking. However, since Dark Magician's attacked, Heavy Metal King didn't receive the power bonus, so when Yugi's monster attack, it left your monster's attack less than that of the Dark Magician. Metalmorph is a power card, when used correctly. Maybe you should've read the instruction manual first. Yugi has put an end to your musical mayhem," I said. Yami nodded with a smile at me.
"Took the words right out of my mouth, Sera," he commented.
"But, that just isn't fair! You must've cheated! Tell me your name!" Steps demanded. Didn't I just say it?
"Just call me Yugi," Yami told him.
"Wait just a minute, that name sorta rings a bell...there's no way! Not the same Yugi who defeated Pegasus in Duelist Kingdom! That can't be you!" Steps said shocked.
"I see that my name struck a chord. It's time to end this duel and it's your move, Johnny!" Yami told him.
"Just forget it, I can't hang with you. I'm out, man. I'm a dancer not a duelist," Steps surrendered. He started to leave then saw me in his way. I glared at him.
"Yugi takes a slight lead and you give up? That's just like when you tried to cheat and make me mess up my notes when I was singing! Just look at you, Johnny, where's your pride?" I asked arms crossed.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" Steps snapped.
"When things don't end up going your way, you turn and run away," I stated.
"And so what if I do? Forfeiting is much better than facing defeat. Everybody loves a winner. I can't let people see me as a loser," Johnny told me. I rolled my eyes.
"Tell me, Johnny, how many friends do you have?" I asked.
"Uh, I've got tons and tons of friends," Steps lied.
"None right?" I asked.
"One I think," he said.
"One huh?! Are you sure about that? Because that's one more than what I thought you would've had!" I told him.
"Hey, just watch your mouth! I don't have to stay here and take this!"
"I can't stand people who can't face their problems!" I groaned.
"What do you mean?" Johnny asked confused.
"Everyone fails every once in a while, it's a part of being human, but the most important thing is having the courage to look trouble straight in the eye. If you really wanna be a winner, be someone who never gives up!" I told him.
"You've got a point, I guess I was wrong," Steps said. He starts walking for a minute then looks at me. "Hey, Sera, thanks for being honest with me," he said to me. I smiled a little.
"No problem," I waved as Yami walked over. "Hopefully he'll now face his problems instead of running away," I said as Yami wrapped his arms around my waist.
"You're right and that's exactly what I have to do," Yami told me. I smiled and kissed his cheek before we left. We made our way to the museum and were outside.
"Well, here we are, the Domino Museum," I said.
"I think you were right about this Egyptian Exhibit. I feel it may hold clues to the mysteries of my ancient past. Answers to some of the questions. Thank you for bringing me here and for helping me today, Sera," Yami said to me. I smiled at him as I grabbed his hand.
"I'll always be there," I told him.
"No matter what's beyond those doors, I'm ready to face it," he said.
"We're ready to face it," I corrected. He nodded.
"Let's go," he said.
"Okay, I'm right with you," I told him. We then walked into the building ready to find out both of our pasts.
