Playing Games with The Player
Chapter 13
Gabby's POV
I sigh to myself, and stand out of bed.
My thoughts seem to entangle one another in my mind. The more I tell myself to fall asleep, the more I wake up. The more I feel the pain weighing me down like twenty bricks stacked on my shoulders.
A knock on the door makes me jump slightly, and I sigh, getting out of bed and dragging myself downstairs.
I sheepishly run my hand through my hair quickly before opening the door.
I rub my eyes in attempt to appear I've just woken up.
"Hey." I hear Jess' comforting voice and I smile slightly before noticing all her bags she's carrying in her arms.
"Hi?" I laugh a little, letting her by and shutting the door.
Jess appears as if something is off, and I look at her confused.
"What's going on?" I ask curiously.
She takes a very slow deep-breath before proceeding.
"Nash is on his way. You should really talk to him." I'm shocked immediately, and quite scattered.
"Why? How do you know?"
"Nash just called Hayes and told him. I figured maybe I'd give you a head's up. Besides, I brought my stuff and figured you needed someone uplifting to hang out with." We both smile.
"Yeah." I nod.
"Wait—he'll know you're here."
"Hayes dropped me off." I look at her oddly.
Hayes and Jess must've really planned this out.
"Okay..." I'm unsure of what to aay, but Jess heads upstairs quickly and I follow behind her, heloig her with her bags.
After setting all of her bags down in what will possibly be her room, we sit down on her bed and I sigh.
"I'm nervous." I let out a breath.
"I really don't want to talk to him...or see him." I close my eyes and try to keep myself calm.
"I know." She gives me a small hug, and as if on time, My doorbell rings.
My heart begins to pound, and I gulp, wuickly running into the bathroom trying to check how I look, wetting my eyes with water quickly before heading downstairs.
I take one more deep breath, before opening the door to an all-too-familiar figure.
My heart sinks in my chest and I stand speechless as I look up at him. Our eyes meet, and I can barely look into them. His eye is rather bruised with deep purple and blue, while a cut on his eyebrow and lip leaves him looking defeated. His hair is a shorter cut compared to when I saw him last, and he looks at me kindly.
"Hey Gabby." He smiles softly, and my heart begins pounding wildly in my chest.
I can see the red strain in his fierce blue eyes. He speaks lowly, and just before I begin examining his full appearance, I smell a hint of bitter alcohol in his voice.
