deh au where, as cheesy as it sounds, connor's only reason to live was evan, and after he reads evan's note he's crushed. he gets high and tries to attack zoe because he's jealous (he's incoherent and she's understandably confused, scared and angry.)

later, connor's mom finds him attempting suicide and manages to stop him but he has evan's letter with him and she sees it and is so desperate for him to have a friend that she convinces herself that they're friends and evan is too shy to protest and expects connor to do so but connor just goes along with it because a) he's so tired of letting everyone down and b) thinks he'll be dead soon anyway so who cares? and c) it seems to be good for evan and d) connor kind of likes evan so this an excuse to maybe get closer to him, though he doesn't have high hopes.

but then they're expected to act friendly around each other and at first it's super awkward because connor likes evan and thinks people are pit to get him so he's instinctively really defensive but it comes across really violently and evan's anxiety would make this hard enough without his confused feelings for zoe and connor and the knowledge that connor knows he likes zoe.

connor ends up going to the same therapist as evan as their moms get talking. zoe doesn't really like evan and has no time for him anyway and evan sees her being not so nice to connor and while she has good reasons, it still puts him off a bit and he realises he's starting to like connor as well.

then jared waltzes in with "you do realise they think you're gay lovers" and evan is so worried that connor will find out he likes him and will hate him or tell everyone so he acts super offended but connor is like "well I am gay so if you could stop acting like that's such a bad thing?" and then connor worries that evan will realise he likes him so he gets all defensive and mean again and says he doesn't like him that way.

then jared or ayala accidentally let's it slip that connor is gay and everyone starts gossiping about it and saying him and evan are dating since they're being seen together and zoe overhears it and relays it back to his parents, who aren't mad that he's gay, just upset that he never told them, and they love the idea of him and evan being together and once again they can't seem to argue so they end up stuck pretending to be boyfriends, but at some point they realise that they've stopped pretending.
