Jennie's POV

“This is for your own good, princess.“ He said, his burning gaze locked on my own. “We wouldn't want a repeat of last night's incident, right?“ The heaviness of his stare made me feel a little guilty of complaining earlier. However, I still don'think that assigning extra guards for my safety is necessary.

“That was just his egocentric self taking control of his actions. I don't even think he planned it. He was just angry and hurt because he didn't get what he wanted.“ I swear trying to reason with him sometimes is tiring. I glared at Nathaniel when he snorted at what I said.

“Every war is fueled by anger, every war in the past started because someone was hurt. He could do so much damage if he wanted to, Jennie. He was in line to be a general, remember?“

I pouted my lips and looked away. He called me by my name. He never calls me that unless he's desperate, serious or angry. He sighed, striding towards me from across the room and wrapping his arms around my waist from behind. I just ignored him, looking outside the window of my room. Men in castle armors were almost everywhere, doing their rounds. They were all trying their best right now after knowing that Sandro attacked me last night. I could even see Verdan and Roque barking orders and making sure everything's alright.

“Not now, princess. I just want you to be safe. Even if he's already in the dungeon, he has his men all around the city. There is a high possibility that they were involved last night, or atleast they knew he was going to do that all along. I can't risk it, I can't lose you.“ He whispered in my ear, before planting a soft kiss on my nape. “Do you trust me?“

I closed my eyes, savoring the feeling of his lips on my skin. “Do you still have to ask that? Of course I do.“

He chuckled at that, “So you agree now?“

“Hmm.“ I hummed in agreement. What can I say, his touch makes me lose the fight and do what he wants. I think he knows that too, that's why he really knows what to do when I'm adamant on refusing. “Can we stay like this for a while?“ I asked, craning my neck to look at him in the eyes.

“We can, even until forever.“

He stared deeply in my eyes, fire alive and burning behind his brown pools. His face inches towards mine, slowly like waiting for me to object or show any sign of refusal. I didn't. His eyes focused on my lips now and I closed my eyes in response, waiting for the kiss to-

“NATE!“

The door opened and I opened my eyes immediately. Nathaniel cursed, moving his face away from mine right away. When I turned to look at the doorway a blush crept on my cheeks as I saw an open-mouthed Cook in the doorway, his clothes was still his cooking uniform and still holding a spatula on one hand.

“What?“ Nathaniel growled lowly, mainly in annoyance.

The panic returned in Cook's eyes, “Sandro! He's gone!“

“Gone??“ We both asked in alarm.

“He escaped!“

I'm pretty sure the blush on my cheeks turned pale. Damn.

***

I woke up feeling a little light-headed. The room I was in was dark, but when my eyes adjusted to the darkness I noticed it was plain and I was lying in a single hospital bed. A dextrose was connected in my arm and my other arm was in a cast. For a moment I wondered what happened, that was until the memories of what happened that night came back like a curveball being thrown at me.

That kiss...

Sometimes I think there's something wrong in my brain.. Of all the worst thing that happened that night what it only processed was the kiss.

Atleast my brain's an optimist.

I tried moving my arm, only to stop when a stinging pain coursed through it. I sighed, looking around the room. I noticed a figure slumped on the chair beside the bed, from the light snores coming from him it looks like he was in a deep sleep. I squinted my eyes to take a better look, and my face heated seeing Nate. Good thing it was dark, I don't want him to see me blushing like a tomato.

But I really need to use the bathroom now.

I slowly moved to sit, ignoring the pain on my arm. The moment my bare feet touched the cold tiles a hand suddenly gripped my shoulders and I almost screamed in fright.

“Nate!“ I scolded, my free arm clutching my chest.

He turned on the lights and that's when I saw his serious expression. “Where are you going?“

“I n-need to use the bathroom.“ I looked away from his intense stare. Strong arms gently lifted me up and I wrapped one arm around his neck to hold on as he carried me to the bathroom.

“You should've told me, I don't want you doing things on your own in this condition.“ He mumbled.

I glared at him playfully, “I'm injured, not disabled.“

He laughed at that, “I know, princess. This is my only excuse to hold you close so let it slip for a while.“

After doing what I have to do inside the bathroom he carried me back to my bed. He opened the containers and tupperwares of food Alarick and Cook brought last night for the both of us. It was already half past four in the morning, and I'm a little worried that he didn't eat anything last night. He insisted that he already had dinner before the incident happened when I questioned him about it though.

“Did you catch him?“ I asked after a while.

“They weren't able to, so they reported what happened to the police instead.“

“What did the police say?“

He was silent for a while, “I think you should watch the news first.“

He opened the television using the remote and flash reports immediately appeared.

“Another mysterious disappearance was added to the list of the girls who had gone missing in the local town of Plaiz in Francisco. Saturday, December 13, the disappearance of two girls were reported. It was only yesterday, Sunday, December 14, that they were declared missing.“ The reporter was reading a written report while pictures of the two girls were shown on the screen. “Last night, another two missing girls were reported. The residents were alarmed of the current incidents in their town but the police ensured them that a thorough investigation will be made.“

“I don't have any idea that this was happening in here.“ I mumbled in surprise.

“Same here,“ He sighed.

In addition, the police let out one important detail of the abductor's MO: based on the investigations, all of the victims have close similarities in their appearances. The culprit was clearly targetting women having wavy and long black hair with matching black eyes.“ I immediately touched my long and wavy black hair and blinked my black beady eyes in surprise. “The police first thought it was a coincidence, but a young student who was almost kidnapped last night but escaped have the same features as described and is currently in the hospital due to an injured arm from her tragic encounter with the culprit.“

I whipped my head to look at Nate, “Is she talking about me??“

“Definitely.“
