It was late in the night when I left
I crawled out of bed and I dressed
It was as I walked from the room
That I turned and I looked at you

"Good night, and good luck." I said
"Dreams of silver upon you, my little one"
It was as I left that I heard you stir
And it broke my heart to leave you

I watched from afar as you woke
You ran searching, crying
You screamed and sobbed as it first dawned
And as I watched I slowly died inside

It's been four years now
You've found someone new
I had always hoped you would
And I knew he was right for you

I watched as you two smiled
I watched as you two married
I watched as you raised your son
I watched as I got further lost

At first when you saw me again you broke
You were horrified and hurt
You hated me for the pain
You hated that I had left

I tried to call a peace
But you wouldn't listen
You said,"Get away from me!"
And I left once again

I've wandered the past few miles
Drunk beyond reason
I wandered to that cliff
That one were we'd watched the sunset

I know it's entirely my fault
And I knew it would hurt so much
But I never guessed how lost I would be
How lost I'd be without you

So I stand at the edge of the cliff
The one that once held beauty
One foot still on the ground
Another to step over the edge
