The description is used to help introduce characters, scenes and atmospheres. It is also often used to create emphasis on certain actions and create significance in objects.
People often do the mistake of using wayyyy too much description or have a huge lack of it. Some people just never seem to find the right balance.
3-4 words to describe a character, atmosphere or scene should be used at the very most and 2 words at the very least, this amount should create a good balance in your writing.
Why should you keep a good balance?
Excessively using description is absolutely unnecessary and can quite honestly make your book 10x more boring and harder to read. Using too little will again make your book boring simply because when reading people need an image in their head to really engage in it and become so enticed by it that they have to carry on reading, using too little description will create a lack of interest due to this.
Only use enough description to create a vivid enough image in the reader's head so that they will carry on reading!!
I hope this piece of advice has helped you!!
Good luck writing :-)
