"And you're past behavior and issues with the law won't affect this Stefanie?" My mother soon asked as all three of us turned to look at her. Was she kidding with this question.
"Mom!"
"Dana." my father warned as I stared coldly towards her.
"What? It's just a simple question honey." Once again she directed her gaze to my girlfriend taking a sip of wine. I knew this was a bad idea. I knew it.
"Um I'm not sure. I don't think so. It's not like I murdered anyone." Stef joked taking a bite of her food as I squeezed her hand.
"Well no of course not but you were in and out of Juvie and a few arrests for assault and..
"Dana stop. Come on honey.T his is not the time or the place. Leave this girl alone we didn't invite her over for this."
"Mom! Stef was protecting herself she's not a violent person."
"Babe it's ok." Stef soothed as I felt her squeeze my hand once again.
"Lena there is no reason to get all angry I never said she was a violent person but these are legitimate questions that someone will sure ask her when she applies to the force. I mean are you prepared to answer these Stefanie? Are you prepared to answer questions as to why you were in Juvie. Because I have to tell you they don't tolerate pot heads and drunks and..
"Excuse me? I'm not a pothead or a drunk if that's what your implying." Stef said soon cutting my mother off as I let out a deep sigh.
"No, I am not implying that young lady. I am just saying you aren't exactly on the road to success. I mean if you want to get your daughter back you need to really be serious about life and stop floating around. Surely I will be honest you are not my first choice for my daughter not at all. You are trouble maker and you have always been a troublemaker and I just don't understand what my daughter sees in you. I don't."
I was shocked. I was speechless for I couldn't believe what my mother had just said as I could feel my heart racing and the anger flow through my body.
"Fuck you." Turning to Stef her voice was filled with more anger then anything as my eyes bugged out for she had never spoken to either of my parents in such a way but I understood it. I did for my mother was being awful to her and I didn't agree with her.
"Excuse me young lady we don't tolerate that kind of talk in my home. You are guest in this house."
"Well you can take your house and shove it Dana. And to be honest I don't think your that great of a mother to Lena. You certainly won't be winning any mother of the year awards for your kindness and support for her. You wouldn't win shit."
"Get out!" Get out of my house now!"
"Gladly. You don't need to tell me twice. Sorry about that Mr. Adams. Thanks for dinner."
"I'm coming!" I said grabbing onto Stef's hand as she held it tight and we walked furiously to the front door.
"Lena Elizabeth Adams you get back here right now!"
"No mom! I won't let you talk to my girlfriend like this! I wont! I love her and you're just going to have to get over it! She's my woman and the best thing that has ever ever happened to me! Come on baby let's go you don't have to take this and I won't let you!" I said yelling as we slammed the front door.
FLASHBACK ENDS
"Really mom? I don't think that's a good idea. Last time she ate dinner over here you were horrible to her."
