Percy POV
The date had played out much differently in my head. I often rethink what I could've done to revert everything that happened. It makes me feel guilty, dwelling on it, like a permanent germ festering inside my gut. I had saved the world twice and the Fates still carried the motivation to ruin my life. The old hags probably watched my life like reality TV on Netflix; I bet the gods looked down on me too, laughing at my predicaments. There shouldn't have been any reason in Hades that after everything, it had all been for nothing. I had fought gods, monsters, Titans, and even survived the depths of Tartarus. I should've been prepared for another major plot in this life. Turns out, even I can't detect evil plans that take years to come to play. Much less, stop what was predestined before my life began.

I'm pretty sure I should've atleasts seen this coming, though. A couple of mentally depraved mortals couldn't take me out like some sick joke.

Well, on second thought, my life is a pretty sick joke.

You see, after the Giant War, newfound hopes and dreams were rekindling, just as my affairs with Annabeth. We hardly received any alone time during the Giant War, (which is usually the case when you're fighting for your life), and now it was time for an actual date. My mom, Sally Jackson, offered to chip in. She cooked homemade pizza and ordered blue candies of all kinds. Since Paul was gone on a business trip, she was pretty much up for anything.

"I could make breadsticks to go with it. I have ingredients to make your favorite," Mom suggested, pulling out a freshly cooked pizza out of a stainless steel oven.

"You've been in the kitchen for hours, and the pizza can feed all of Camp Half-Blood. Give yourself a break," I said, concerned about her wellbeing. The circles around her eyes were lingering from this morning. It reminded me of the pain she'd experienced when I went missing last year and the physical toll the stress took on her body.

Despite me making it back, I believe some of that loss stayed with her. I couldn't possibly stop feeling at fault for that.

"You obviously don't understand the extent of your appetite," she smiled teasingly, hiding what sadness showed on her face moments earlier.

I faked a hurt look, pulling her into a tight hug. "Thanks, mom. I should be back in the afternoon."

*******************************
Annabeth and I met up at Sally's apartment in Manhattan, taking a taxi on the fifty minute drive to Bronx. I was skeptical of this decision at first, but Annabeth insisted the beaches were worth it.

As always, she was right.

The sand held a temperature that didn't burn our skin and refused to be damp or grimy. It was early September, signifying more than a year after the Giant War. Life had continued in Camp Half Blood since then, quickly returning to normal for regular campers after all of the rebuilding was complete. Annabeth and I did have plans to go to New Rome, but since Gaea's defeat it's been impossible to get a break. Frank Zhang continuously needed us at Camp Jupiter, or Chiron wanted us to be teachers for new campers.
