Finn walked through the halls, running after Millie, his best friend. It was finally their graduation. After 10 months of hell, they would leave these four walls. And the next step was Highschool.
"Millie!" Finn called, right before the graduation started. Millie looked at him. "The grad pic you promised," Finn reminded her. It was that time of the year where people were handing out grad pics. Finn asked for one since the pictorial, but Millie said she would give him one on the last day.
Millie smiled. "Here," she said, giving him her picture. Finn looked at the girl in it. She had light make up and her hair was straightened. "You look pretty," Millie smiled. He turned the picture to read the dedication on it, but Millie stopped him. "Read it later,"
Just then, they hear an announcement saying that the graduation would start. They rushed to the auditorium. Millie and Finn's seats were not that near. Millie was the valedictorian so she was seated at the front. Finn was seated at the middle. Though he tried his best, he didn't get any awards. It was hard to accept at first, but he got over it.
At the start of the program, Finn was really bored so he decided to read Millie's dedication. It was very long. It read:
Dear Finn,
Congrats on graduating!! We did it :) We'll be highschool soon. I'm moving schools though :(( Before I transfer, I wanna tell you something. I have been crushing on you since day 1, Finn Wolfhard. I know you're already used to hearing this, and I'm probably not any different from any of your other secret admirers. And I've been hurting, knowing you'll never love me that way. It's been distracting me from my work, so I decided to tell you so that I can finally face rejection and move on :) Even if we drift apart, you'll always matter to me. Even though I probably don't matter to you :)
x Millie
Finn was really surprised. He always thought that they were only friends, and she never thought of him that way. But she did.
He knew he had to be honest with her, and hated having to break her heart. But he had to.

After everything was finished, Finn frantically looked for Millie. She was nowhere to be seen. He looked everywhere, and finally found her walking alone to the exit. "Millie?" Finn said softly, but she heard him.
Millie gave him a broken smile. "I see you read it?" Millie asked, pointing at the picture he held. "Yeah.." There was a silence. "I'm sorry Millie. You do matter to me, but I can never force myself to love you that way," Finn said slowly. Millie smiled sadly, shedding a tear. She quickly wiped it with her handkerchief. "I know. Thank you for being honest Finn," She said, slowly hugging him gently. They hugged each other for a second. "Millie.." Finn said, feeling guilty. "It's okay Finn. You're right. You can't force your heart to do something it doesn't want to."
One last stare, and they separated. "Goodbye," Millie said. "Bye,"
Heyyoo I just finished studying for tomo and decided to update! :)) This was actually a scene for a book I wanted to write but it seemed more fitting as a one shot :)
